There is absolutely no reason anyone would make a fake 1957 D Lincoln Wheat cent. It's real and worth a few cents.

Your coin just lost considerable mass being dissolved, regardless of how it happened. Think about how glass (or a coin) can be worn and smoothed by the sea.

 The weight and size have been reduced by an acid dissolving the material of the coin itself. There is a 99% chance it was a completely normal coin to begin with.
