This is a nasty looking coin in hand. First things first. At first I thought struck through a capped die then I thought it could be a washer coin. My final thought is struck through a partial capped die and possibly early stage Dryer Coin? What do you think?

Possible Struck Through Grease?

Hard to tell with all that wear.

Yea it weighs 3.0 and it could be PMD but I don't think so.

If it were altered, I would think the rims and what other devices there, would be also flat. Is the edge of the coin thicker and thinner around the whole coin? If so it might be a thinned planchet? But with the reverse looking pretty normal, it maybe a partial fill with grease on the obverse? But the rims seem too thin to be a Struck Through Grease error. But for some reason the coin is lighter? So this one offers suggestions, but nothing definite comes to mind for me right now.

Since the reverse is relatively unaffected by whatever caused the problems on the obverse, I think we can rule out Dryer Coin as an answer as well as a thin planchet.

I notice that the devices are less affected as they approach the rim and more affected towards the center. Hence, LIB is visible, but ERTY is mostly gone. Also, 19 is gone but 80 is readable. IGWT is visible and the gutter under the bust is almost normal, but the neck and tie of Lincoln are almost gone.

I don't see a capped die causing that, so I lean towards a massive Grease Filled Die strike and wait for other more knowledgeable opinions.

Throwing out other options other than just PMD, I'm leaning more towards a partial grease-filled die.

Thanks for the opinions guys. I could see a Grease Filled Die as well. I found it roll hunting. Found a few shield cent doubled dies as well. I'll post the better ones in a few days when I finish this box.
