Hope I'm posting in correct forum. Not sure if this is considered a Barber dime, Bust Dime, etc. I believe it's silver, but could be maybe mercury? There is a mark above the 1944 date that I'm not sure what it is? Almost looks like a "w" over a "d"? Can someone please shed some light on the flowing hair or eagle winged hair do? Thank you. She's a bit tattered, so I tried to get best pics I could. Thank you.

It is a Mercury silver dime. The mark above the date are designer's initials - AW. John1

@miss, these are fun dimes. The term "mercury" has to do with the design and not the metal alloy though. From your post, I'm not sure if that is clear to you. If it was, then sorry for being pedantic.

I was wrong. Thanks for correcting me. I get it now. I get the Mercury name and on the other post, I now realize the initials! History was not my best class, but I'm learning more collecting coins. It can be traumatizing sometimes. Lots to learn and thanks for all the help. I love it!

Mercury dime along with about 20 or more Buffalo nickels, War Nickels and Wheat pennies were found by my brother many years ago, cleaning and rehabbing foreclosed houses. He threw them in his toolbox abd never gave em a second thought for 20 years later. I found out I've got terminal cancer, said I've got nothing but time, so I started looking them up. Bought a book on error coins, found a bunch of silver and proof coins, and doing sonexresear

Miss Italy 21 , sorry to hear about your Cancer . Do what ever you like best and don't look back at the past . Do what ever you want ,go wherever you want . If staying with coins makes you happy then so be it .And most of all don't take crap from anyone .
