TB's recent example of the 1919P with rim Cud http://goccf.com/t/406866)
(one of many he has found) reminded me I spotted and won a 1919P with die damage on opposing sides of the coin. Perhaps the damage was caused when the debris from a rim Cud got between the dies during a strike. I doubt we'll ever know. Most of the time, unique die damage is only is visible on one side of a coin.

So this made me think other collectors out there have come across coins with some interesting die damage. The area on the coin should be raised which indicates an abnormal depression on the die face.

Here's my 1919P with opposing die damage. This probably happened with no planchet between the dies.

(BTW-On this coin under Lincoln's shoulder, there are deep die gouges/scratches perpendicular to and a scratch parallel to the rim).)

Lets see what you've got and hopefully this thread will provide some interesting examples.
(IMHO, die damage shouldn't be confused with struck throughs, flaws with the planchet, Die Deterioration, or other striking irregularities.)

I'm looking forward to seeing what you've got. Bring them on!!

Very cool that it's on the opposing sides!

Here are a couple of coins with similar anomalies, to each other. Post-Your-Examples-Die-Damaged-Coins.

Also interesting that they are different mints. Probably made about the same time but one shipped to Denver where the MM was added.

I had to go back three years, but found a coin with double sided die dents.

Those images may not be in the best order, as constant interruptions today are making things hard.

But feeder fingers also damage dies so here is an example of that from a 1996 Lincoln Cent.

It's small but I'm thinking after running across several of these, it's die damage, maybe a trail die. At first I wrote it off as a plating bubble until I saw several, exactly alike.

The majority of the 21's I've looked at have that "trail".

I was thinking a trail as well.

Yes, I did list the cracked die on COC.

I found several rolls of this one in a mint bag about six years ago but still don't know for sure what caused it. The date, breast of the coat, bow tie and neck all have peculiar (raised) marks

These are some great examples. I like them all and don't want to put limits on what people might post.
I like "Abby Normal" die damage. Post-Your-Examples-Die-Damaged-Coins.

TB, that 1988 P has to be one of the craziest ever.

Coop, some of those die breaks can get knarly.

11997755: Thanks for that 1972D Nickel with the "Mississippi River" die crack or funky gouge.

-makecents- That 2021 P with possible Trail Die @ 1 reminded me of the 1983D DDO-001 Doubled Ear. http://varietyvista.com/01b%20LC%20...3DDDO001.htm

lawest: that left wheat on that 1952 sure has an irregular shape to that pre-cud and those lines on the 1961 look like the die had worms. LOL

AS I mentioned I love them all especially the severe ones, but I'm hoping to see more irregular and atypical die damage like TB's, Lawest, and 11997755 with atypical shattered/broken/damaged dies. (Or even funky/odd clashes or counter clashes.)

Dies that make us go "Huh?" or "I wonder what caused that?" or "Looky there! "

Thanks again everyone.

Ya want strange, well here's one. A big, hard bit of something got in there during what was probably a strike without a planchet and damaged both dies. It also cracked the reverse die, which got listed as UDC-1c-1983-03.

I Think we have Feeder Finger Damage and quite possibly struck through feeder finger arm?

I've found many clashes but only one Radical MAD clash.

MDC-1c-1997-02
Post-Your-Examples-Die-Damaged-Coins.
This was one of the later die stages, after the obverse had been changed out, so no clash on my obverse.
