For those on the curious side, get onto google maps and view the greater San Fernando/Los Angeles/Irvine area. Search for 'pawn shops'. Zoom in a ways and search again--more will pop up. They are all over the place. Add greater San Diego and even Las Vegas to the mix. There are a good number of coin shops as well.

Sincerely hope there's a good outcome just over the horizon.

Not a bad idea. May take some time to check all the ones that are reasonably close for the perpetrators.

Personally, I'd file a police report with as much info as I could provide. Receipts, pictures, emails, etc. The way I understand it, pawn shops on the up and up will enter descriptions of pawned items which are automatically cross referenced to police databases of reported stolen items. Hence the police report.

Assume you locate your stolen coins, who's to say they're yours and were really stolen?

Best of luck.

pinkfl, one advantage of slabbed coins (and slabbing any of your good stuff slabbed) is having all of them itemised in your set registry. That way if the slabs are sold it is easy to show ownership, and if they are cracked out then the images (if they are decent) will show them to be yours.

A little effort and leg work...pays off...

Made flyers with photos which included police report #, Then went around to almost 40 pawn, "we buy gold" and coin shops around me...waited to speak to the employees/owners (didn't interrupt their business activities)....then forgot about it (no need dwelling in the past)

They showed up on the far side of my city at a combo coin and jewelry store...Owner told "seller" that he didn't know how to price something like this and wanted to check the internet, then called PD, they arrived and interviewed "seller". Seller claimed he found them in a backpack in a dumpster and was free to go.

....Now all 3 are back at home and safely tucked away....

That is good news. Half of my paper money collection got stolen/spent by people I know and I no longer collect those because of it. Luckily none of my coins got stolen. I trust my collection to very few people.

Well, I'm very glad you got them back, great perseverance and good job on the leg work. Now, any word on that "seller" - what happened to him/her?

Strange that the cops let the seller go. Here in Australia he would have been charged with stolen goods in possession (by law here if you find an item worth over $5 you are required to hand it to the police, if the item remains unclaimed after 3 months then the finder gets ownership).

Amazing work on tracking your stolen goods down, I imagine it was like halving a thorn in your neck and getting them back hopefully removed it:) hopefully you got everything back including any missing coins.

As for the person who stole the good idk there is much that can be done if there is no proof, possession of stolen goods I believe is illegal but it's an easy thing to get off with if there is no evidence you were the one to steal it then you just have to claim you didn't know it was stolen goods.

Edit:did you ever check on your ceramic hours? Hopefully it's ok as well.
