Picked this one the other day. Looked great in the photos, and in hand has fantastic cartwheel luster. But still, the color looks a little off like some moron dipped it in acetone. It'll go out for grading, but worried it'll get the dreaded "altered surfaces" details grade. 1909 Lincoln Wheat cent doubled die - DDO-001, FS-1101

Very nice, Bats! They tell us acetone does nothing to alter copper and won't hurt anything, but evidence states otherwise.

It is one thing to acetone a five-dollar circulated something to take some glue off. What chowderhead dips an MS grade coin even if they don't know it's a DDO? It will get you an "altered surfaces" details grade and that is just as good as cleaning a coin. I have a 1910 S/S Lincoln in, believe it or not, better condition that this coin, with exactly that grade. Soul crushing to know it was preventable.

Super clear doubling on this one @tb. Nice work!

A nice pickup despite the dip. From the pictures I'm guessing PCGS will call this one UNC details like you mentioned. Unfortunate someone tampered with what was an extra nice coin.

Very nice coin, please keep us updated on what grade it gets. I thought it was totally safe to dip any coin in 100% pure acetone, have I been misinformed? John1

Yea that stinks big time. I bought one of these with the same outcome. Did you get it from pascal. I just got that 34 DDO and it looked great in the pictures but definitely odd color in hand. I may send it back.

I'm in with the acetone thing. I thought it was safe! I do it for some of my coins. What are you saying?
