This quarter has been in my possession since 2002. The back of the quarter looks like it did not get plated correctly or fully. Is it worth anything?

to the CCF

Looks like something (perhaps another coin) was sitting on it
and the rest was exposed to some sort of environmental damage
Is the other side OK?

Can't be a plating issue, as it is a clad layer, not plated (unlike post-1982 cents). Soak in pure acetone to see if anything comes off? — or is it toned?

Also looks like some acidic corrosion, perhaps, above LOUISIANA.

Agree with JimmyD. I've seen this 'feature' on other coins over the years.

@amb, a good way to check for a missing clad layer is to measure the weight. If it is normal then it must be something else like surface staining. Coins with a missing clad layer are all significantly below mint specs.

Pics make me think of environmental staining. Coins like this can be found inside the bottom of car cupholders.
