Got what appears to be a silver plated 1945 UK penny in a job lot. I think you can tell from the finish it's not a minted coin and besides I have never heard of a sliver penny being minted.

Do folks agree and is there any value apart from a novelty?

I wouldn't think this has any value.

Technically that is a damaged coin so there is no extra value.

Even an undamaged 1945 penny in average circulated condition is of very little value - my local coin dealer chucks them into a tray marked '10 coins for £1'. Keep it as a novelty item!

Agree with the above. However, there could always be a crazed collector out there who'd pay upwards of a couple USD for it. You never know.

- just considered damage by coin collectors. If its actual silver plating, the amount of silver is so small its not worth a premium either.

Looks like it has been bleached. Either way agree with all the above, a historical curiosity and like NumisRob said in another post, that by the 1960s Pennies suffered all sorts of abuse, being large and cheap coins.

This "plating" could have been done anytime but likely before decimalisation.
