The rim damage must be worse than photos show. My guess is the reverse fields caused the coin to graded cleaned.

i agree with slider. that little rim hit should not have caused that designation especially on a coin grading that low. you expect some minor issues for a coin in circulation that long. i'd add cleaning to that as well. I cant see how they came up with that. what the heck is AB? thats ridiculous

Yeah, AB grade is a new one for me. I don't get why they would change that from AG.

The AB had me confused also. That's what they posted on my order online. I found a grading explanation that said AB is their designation for a details AG03. When I checked my email this morning I had an email from ANACS with grades & it said AG3. No idea why it's different on the online order....

B is next to G on a keyboard, so I thought AB was just a typo. Why they would be typing grades and not picking from a drop down menu I can't explain. Edit: "AB" does show up here https://www.anacs.com/FAQ.aspx#faq5But AB is under "problem grades" for both AU58 and AG3. Weird.

my question is what does AB stand for. AG is about good. is AB like About Bad? i guess they are trying to be different than the other TPG's and come out with their own grading Mnemonics for detailed coins. Stupid. all its going to do is confuse a lot of people.

I had 3 details coins in the lot. On the online order under "Grades" they were designated as V3, FI, & AB. On the email that customer service sent they show VF30, F12, & AG3. I'm assuming that's what will be on the slabs. No idea why they do it that way.

V3 = "V'ery Fine "3"0 or 35? FI = "Fi"ne 12 (F5 would be Fine 15) AB = "Ab"out Good 3 My guesses
It is likely the form or report they are using allows a maximum of two characters in that particular field and it's easier to come up with mnemonics than rewrite the software in question.

Quote: It is likely the form or report they are using allows a maximum of two characters in that particular field and it's easier to come up with mnemonics than rewrite the software in question. as I was a programmer for decades. just put the details tag on the slab like everyone else. doesn't make sense unless they are trying to differentiate themselves from the other TPG's and then all its going to do is confuse collectors as to what these mean. keep it simple stupid

As if grading wasn't confusing enough!

Coins got here yesterday. The slabs are all marked with the regular grade & detail designation. I guess all the AB, V3, FI, etc are for internal purposes.
