Can't remember if this one came in a roll, or back in some change, just remembered tossing it aside! Looks like they maybe painted on something clear, nail polish or schlack, on the obverse, with maybe a lil on the reverse! After asking what they used, gotta ask why! Was it to protect something? Anyhow, just wanted to see if yall approved of this protection method, what is it, and probably, will acetone get it off?

There is no telling of what it is other than it's a clear foreign substance. This is likely not done to preserve the coin and pure acetone is likely going to remove it.

I'm guessing it's superglue, or something similar, and I'm guessing they were using it to glue the coin onto something. Perhaps the old "glue a coin to the sidewalk and watch as people try to pick it up" gag.

For fun, try an acetone soak--a long soak--100% acetone, available at a reputable hardware store near you.

looks like lacquer to me as well, I remember going into a tavern-gift shop in Reno in 1960 something and the whole bar top had Morgan silver dollars covered with lacquer, "insane"

clear glue, lacquer, something got on this coin - try an acetone soak for 24 hours and see it it softens up.

Some " collectors" used to shellack or varnish their Lincolns too preserve them. You'll see them once in a while.

That doesn't affect the coin negatively?

Just a face value coin. The coating will eventually fall off or get removed. (with nail polish) But there is not premium for this one I can see? (copper melt)
