Hey all, just wondering what's going on here? It's also really thin and weighs 1.3 grams. Thanks for all the help and welcomes on my first post recently.

I'm not 100% certain but I think its a Split Planchet. Lets hear what the pros have to say.

The front shows an improper alloy mix representing wood grain. Typically these are nicknamed "Woodies"

As to the rest of the weak image, I will let others chime in if this is a possible weak strike (which according to err-ref.com is supposed to show a weak rim).

to the CCF You found a good one. Definitely a split planchet before strike. Better than 1/2 gone. If it was after the strike, one side would be struck up normal. Very very nice find.

Not so much as a split planchet but something very similar.

Detached laminations that cover most of the coin.
The laminations are very thin, almost like a plating , and that is why some of the rim remains.

Weight confirms that some of the coin is missing.
That it is so far underweight, suggests to me that that that it was a fully split blank before being struck into a coin, and that some more laminations detached after striking.

Reverse? - I am still trying to make up my mind for sure, but
light strike due to planchet to being so thin seems most probable, to my way of thinking.

This coin definitely a keeper, because of the questions it raises in relation to minting technology, and remains open to further discussion.

Weight? If less than 3.11 then it could be split off or thinned planchet.
If 3.11 grams, Struck Through Grease. Nice woody look on the obverse.
