another area of concern is reverse K3-K5 rim separation from the denticles. then one needs to be concerned with the obvious difference between obv and rev wear and how the coin would grade. consider even a G4 1893S is in the $2500 range why isn't this coin in slab to confirm its authenticity
gotta pass on this one. it would be interesting to see a side view of the coin

Date and mintmark position are both wrong, clearly a counterfeit.

Put me in the counterfeit group as the spacing from the bottom of the 3 to denticles is different on the OP example than a genuine VF20 PCGS 93 S as the bottom of the 3 on the OP example is too close to the denticles. OP Example Genuine VF20 PCGS

Somebody got burned to the tune of almost 1000$. Sad thing is their lack of knowledge will probably not be realized until they, or their heirs, try to sell the coin down the road.

Someone should notify the auction house for sure.

Quote: Someone should notify the auction house for sure. I doubt they care. Buyers need to be smarter than to bid on an item like this from a no-name auction site.

Their contact info is pretty easy to find, if you're so inclined.

Quote: Someone should notify the auction house for sure this auction house handles areas across multiple items other than coins. I dont believe they are versed in coins or counterfeits. people just post what they have for sale and thats that. so the original poster is obviously the culprit here or they would have posted it on a coin site for sale. maybe contacting the auction house they can track the seller and restrict them from future posts

Catamount Auctions Co., LLC is the one who sold it, easy to find them. They might "do the right thing", who knows. Easy to pass through a coin like this without digging into the details. PCGS has even slabbed a 1901-S 25c sandwich fake with a similar disparity in obv/rev wear and the wrong date/mm positions. It happens.
