I believe this would be considered a Cud, though the inner edges are rougher than other Cuds I've see. Is it a Cud?

Also, it looks like a repunched S to me.

Comments appreciated!

To me it looks like a struck through debris on that area. Why do I think that? Note on a Cud this is when a void opens up on the die. The affected area is raised above the surface of the die as deep as the void is on the die. So the deeper the void, the higher it will rise on the coin:

Note the rim would raise more on these, also the opposite side of the coin will show weakness on that area. Note on this image, the weakness because of the missing area on the strike was not there to create resistance to strike up the opposite side devices. Now if I saw the reverse of your coin, I would expect it to be normal opposite that area of the coin. Also not on your coin, you can see the shape under that area. Thus I feel something is on the planchet/coin area. Note the rim is normal height on that area. Indicating that this is not a Cud. You not see a hint on that area if it were a Cud.

Even on a small Cud, the rim rises above the rim.

This looks like a Cud to me as well. But not a RPM, that appears to be circulation flattening.

I agree with Coop that it's not a Cud. I can still make out the complete form of the L, which would be gone if the die had broken. Looks more like a folded over Rim Fin than anything else.

A side shot, showing the edge near the L, might help clarify things.

I think it's an RPM as well. Looks most like VV's RPM 007. There is flattening of the original S, no doubt, but I still see the second punch east of the top and middle of the S.

Nice find!

Yes, leaning away from the Cud assessment, leaning toward RPM as HGK3 sees it.
