My guess without looking at the Sheldon scale or Red Book deluxe is Very fine 20 Cud mark reverse. My guess is you paid $78.00 free shipping. It's value is about $750 Red Book value. So good of a deal did you get?

First thoughts? F-15, with nice surfaces. The hit over the eye and patches of very slight porosity in front of the portrait and around the wreath should be compatible with a problem-free grade.

Love the Cud!

this one has been in the collection since 1996.

if you all want to guess the price paid in 1996 I'm willing to do something similar to what Numismatic Student did the other day on their 1806/5 half dollar (here: http://goccf.com/t/435687).

closest guess to the 1996 purchase price without going over will get a large cent prize.
ill pull something for a prize tomorrow and ill post pictures of it here.
contest ends on friday at 10pm central. thats about 48 hours.
only your first answer counts.

good luck, have fun and thanks to NS for a neat idea.

Very nice appeal for this coin. I like the Cud and Retained Cud combo. Too bad for the minor obverse pitting, all other surfaces look great. The reverse is sharp, obverse is a little mushy. Technical VF-20 with an EAC net to F-15.

Regarding the price, I was born in 2003 so guessing a cost in 1996 is a blind piñata shot. My guess: $50 (insert piñata here)
Suffering from bust half fever.

Nice coin. I see it as F-12 obverse and F-15 reverse with a nice Cud. also looks like there may be some clashing. I'm also wondering if the obverse field in front of the face is a planchet defect or corrosion? Looks like the first style hair and reverse of 1797. Hard to tell if it is the overdate from these pics but I don't think so. I will guess the cost for this in 1996 would have been about $75.00

Other than the small pick marks on the bust, and the hit to the eye, nice surfaces. Love the color. I'll say a TPG choice F15, maybe even VF20, EAC F12. Guessing you paid $160 for it.

I would grade this VG10/F12.
Relatively smooth surfaces, very minor granularity in places, and pleasant color.
I would say the price paid was aprpox. $95

I will guess $40 in 1996. Very cool cent! I am definitely not qualified to put a grade out there on these.

I'm going with F-15 and think it cost around $34 in 1996.

Stronger on the reverse, and I love the Cud. I'd say a strong F-15, and I'd guess it cost $60 in 1996.
