Yes, this one is a bit of a mouth full, and yes, the description is correct. The coin below I received in change this morning at Star Bucks, and when I was going to toss it into our quarter bucket at the shop it did not feel right.

This coin scales in at 4.94 grams or .06 less than a standard nickel but well within normal tolerance. While the images of the date are fuzzy that's because it came from my phone. The coin looks like a hammered high MS coin as well, almost like it came out of an old roll today.

Nice find!

It would be interesting to see the coin's 3rd side.

Amazing change score! Great eye appeal on this one.

@two, just to be clear are you saying that this quarter was overstruck on an existing nickel or on a nickel blank?

This piece looks to be struck on a Nickel planchet and the coin was struck 2 times. Its diameter is almost a full quarter in size but thin. I will post a few images of the edge in about an hour. The date and quarter dollar clearly show a double strike and the collar edge has an area that has overlapping reeding.

I only posted a couple of times after the move to 2.0, need to get back there. I just got my calendar from John though, very nice.

Very nice find from change. Congrats!

wow, one doesn't see 15 cent pieces very often

rather than from a second strike, the oddness on the date might be from stretching of the smaller nickel planchet
