think about it, compared to the silver eagle, the eagle has lady liberty with her flowing dress and majestic pose and the Franklin has an old fat balding man, and the reverse has a bell with a crack in it compared to the American eagle. So does the design of the Franklin make it less collectable to anyone?

You may be on to something. The Ikes aren't very popular either.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder--sounds trite, but very true in numismatics. US coinage was evolving significantly--more and more actual people shown on coins rather than 'symbolic' beings. Franklins may not wow everyone, but some do admire them.

I used to think they were very ugly. However, I now like them. I still don't like the obverse of Ikes.

I like Franklins (as you can see from my avatar). Don't like the bald head?

Don't get me wrong - I greatly admire Ike. It's just that his profile is about as suitable a subject for a coin engraver as mine is!

We get engraved with hair we have, not the hair we wish we had! Not everyone gets to be JFK.

I was never really interested in Franklins because of the design . Reverse is better than the fat bald headed obverse . But I must admit a deep cameo proof Frankie is stunning .

Franklins are ok. Not my favorite, which would be Liberty bust coinage of the 19th century. I'll probably be flogged and brined for saying this, but I think Peace dollars are ugly. Same with Indian gold coins of the early 20th century. Just my opinion.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Quote: Not everyone gets to be JFK Never really thought about that. What a difference when they went from Franklin's head directly to JFK's!

Not everyone gets to be JFK. I wonder if Mamie would've complained had we been graced with an accented hair Ike?

The only thing I find unattractive about the Franklin is the eagle on the reverse. It looks like it's posing in a bodybuilding contest.
