I found this in a roll, I was a bit frustrated as its a 2005, but I think it might be an error, it looks damaged but if you notice where "In God We Trust" is not even printed but you can see the outline. I have seen this in older coins, where I have a dime you can see the "P" mint mark, but it could be worn as its an older coin, but this is 2005. Then the other aspect was the feel, it feels 100% different from every other coin, and obviously the rim is messed up which I assume is damage, although not many coins get this bad, so maybe it is because of the error. I have to take a better pic of the back to upload, but half the design is missing basically. Pretty interesting.

Going with that pic it just looks like circulation damage not a mint error. In future posts please properly crop photos and rotate them properly, thanks.

Yes I agree with you, but would go further to say that the excessive wear is also due to mechanical damage of some sort. For me, this nickel would be a spender.

Agree with all of above plus it might have been in a parking lot for some time.

Most unusual things on coins are just post mint damage. So trying to find something odd and then see if it is an error will cost you a lot of time, wasted effort, and disappointment.

If you want to know collectable errors (vs. the maniacal amount of non-errors posted on ebay as being valuable coin errors) then get a box of penny rolls from the bank. Sort them by date and mint mark. Go to verietyvista.com and use the pictures there to find an EXACT (cannot stress that enough...every detail) match.

If you don't find yours then look up things like Die Deterioration Doubling, Mechanical Doubling (error-ref.com) etc.
