I've got a chance to purchase a 1923-s Standing Liberty quarter and would appreciate your grade and value opinions and whether you think it's been cleaned. Thanks.

It's in a plastic holder and I can't take it out until I'm sure I want to buy it.

I moved your thread to the proper section. What is the asking price?

F15 - might squeak into VF. Assuming those scratches are on the holder, as they appear to be.

I'm at F-15 obv VF-25 reverse original a net VF something but...the denticles, toes, designers initial and mintmark alignment seem off just enough where I would hesitate buying unless seller guarantees refund if it comes back from TPG as altered. This coin is a tough one as the date thickness, numbers alignments, puffiness etc. seem to check out as authentic.
On a coin that auctions at $1,000 and retails $1,200+ why risk it any potential problems with a raw example?

I'll say F-15 as well. Why are you unable to look at it outside the holder?

Looking at the shield and all the detail in both Liberty and the Eagle, this looks VF-30 straight grade to me.

I'm at VF20.

there are quite a few scratches on the left side of the obv. and through the body. if they are on the coin they do not look they are all in the same direction which is a plus and may rule out a harsher type cleaning. TPG's may be lenient on this due to the date but would probably net it down if they don't details it.

if you are seeing the pinkish coloring on both sides, like the photos are showing, this may indicate an old cleaning. it could be lighting, it could be photos altering the surfaces a little so again an in-hand assessment is needed. it definitely has retoned if it was in fact cleaned

I'm not sure i'd buy her raw unless I could return it

Here's what F-15 looks like on the PCGS grading site.

Nope, here is what an F15 looks like on the PCGS grading scale - direct screen grab from PhotoGrade. And what follows is the PCGS screengrab for VF30

If I am a buyer of the coin having to grade it through the plastic, I am not paying over F12 price. The coin has an upside of getting into a TPG holder at VF20, but hard to tell with the white scratches that appear to be on the plastic. The example has had an old cleaning, but is it market acceptable to get a straight grade?

I posted the wrong one also. Here is a VF-25 23-S from PCGS. I'm revising my grade down to VF-25.

DOCC - T1 and T-2 SLQs are graded differently in the marketplace. I don't care how, or what, Photograde depicts or says. The varieties are completely different.

OP - your coin appears to be between F and VF. All depends what it looks like in hand, who's grading it and what day it is.
