Quote: Problem is, I don't think it would straight-grade. Aesthetics aside, for a coin with actual monetary value, that's an issue, either now or down the road.

Agree with Frog, this will now not straight grade after the treatment with verdicare .

This is all a moot point, since in my experience coins that have been "cleaned" or have "corrosion" don't straight grade. They usually get a VF or XF details stamped on the slab. So this coin would receive a "details" rating treated or not. I don't sell my coins, but just enjoy collecting different varieties to see how many I can accumulate. Good discussion on this topic.

I think you've eye-appealed it into a details/cleaned grade.

I prefer this coin after VerdiCare treatment, whatever a 'details cleaned' comment may do to the value.

I prefer the original as well fwiw.
If only verdicare was used, the use of the q-tip was maybe too aggressive. The 'natural toning' is not intact as you said, some patina is clearly stripped away on the high points and in the field.

I agree with Frog, it now has a cleaned appearance.

Lively discussion! The pre-treatment coin has obvious light surface corrosion (euphemistically called environmental damage). No way it would have straight-graded. Like most posters, I think it looks better after treatment. Surfaces will also likely be protected from ongoing corrosion. Still a problem coin, but better eye appeal IMO.

I like it better after treatment, nice job. Very nice looking coin to add to your collection.

After treatment is more visually appealing to me - details or not. I know you intend to keep but, at some point it will be sold. By your grandkids or down the line. And with that said, market acceptance is the real question and I propose the post VC coin will get more 'clicks' that the pre VC coin.
Better eye appeal with the addition of preventative maintenance - well done.
