Having a tough time deciding if this is a Woody. There is definitely a grainy visual up close. It is also a metal detecting find that has been restored so could have been my efforts that caused the appearance. Thoughts appreciated.

I'd say yes, this is a woody. Improper alloy mixes come in a variety patterns and severity. Do you have a before restoration photo?

It's a woody. Many, but not all woodies have striking, zebra like features. Think of this one as a finer grain, nearly cross cut version of woodgrain. Bottom line, it's an alloy issue.
Nice find, by-the-way.

It's not an all or none issue. It definitely has some woody characteristics, but very subtle. Pretty impressive detector find!

Thx all. Looking at the pre-restore Reverse you can almost make out the same patterning. So, not thinking it was my efforts.

It does have a neat looking pattern to it - would be from alloy mixing so "Woody" it is.

Slight woody. I'm impressed with the restoration. Nice job. Care to revel the ancient secret?
