After checking Completed Listings this is marked as Sold w/Best Offer. I see nothing wrong with this auction and ebay didn't pull if because we can still see it. The only thing I can think of is either a mistake on the sellers part for accidentally accepting a Low offer or a possible shill/feedback booster scam Quote:

I would take a guess that you will not receive this coin. or the slab and coin is fake. I know absolutely nothing about the older dollars so the fake part could be wrong. but $55.00 for a $400.00 coin sounds like the screw is in there somewhere.
good luck with it though
how cool would that be? to get the coin as all is above the table

It looks like the seller cancelled the auction before it finished. (It ought to read "This auction has ended", however. Maybe we captured the page before it was fully processed by ebay?)) |

I'll take a guess at this one.
From what I see, it could unfold one of two ways
#1 Given the auction terms of prior sales, this particular coin, coincidentally sold at one of the many shows they attend. Therefore, you will not be getting this coin.
I don't know about this scenario though. If this would be a common place activity for this seller, He would have more negative feedback. Some sellers are obsessed with feedback (I find it a flawed system)
#2 While reading further down in the auction, the seller asks if this coin upgrades your collection, and makes the offer to purchase the unwanted hole filler from your collection.
You then sent in a picture of your replaced hole filler. They (the seller) bought your coin for just as much, if not more than what you paid for the better coin purchased in this auction.

I'll throw in my 2 cents worth......they meant to post the coin at $550 but left off a 0, & you were the first one to notice & jump on it. Inquiring minds want to now how it ended.

Gotta be a pricing error by the dealer and he won't sell the coin for that price. For what it's worth, the coin looks genuine (it is a perfect match for my ICG-certified 1837) and the PCGS certificate number is correct.

trdhrdr007 got it right! The coin was in Typecoin's stash for a Buy it Now at $55. Jerry is a reputable and knowlegable dealer, so I didn't expect any funny business. I figured that something was up, but I decided to go ahead and with the 'Buy it Now'; but not initially pay for it. I figured he either a) was being really nice and offering a great deal(not very likely) or b) he made a listing error(much more likely). I wanted to give him a chance to respond if it were a listing error. I did not want to hold him to the contract if it was in fact a listing error, and the fact that I committed to it would get it off of ebay in case someone purchased it that WOULD try to hold him to it. The next day I received an email from him explaining basically tbat the item was listed for $600, and he just lowered it to $550; BUT he left out the last 0! OOOOOOOOOPPS!  As a result he would cancel the sale, but he offered to give me 5% off and free shipping for anything in his shop to make it up. So, I went along and agreed to cancel the sale. -sigh-. I figured if I were to try to hold him to it, it would turn out in a long drawn out nasty mess. I couldn't do that in good conscience to a listing error anyways, and I know that would have been a decent hit on his income. I'm all about good deals on ebay, but not for a listing error of that magnitude. Now if it went that cheap in an actual auction; it would be another story and I would be fighting tooth and nail. |
