Hi guys.. I've got a jar full of Uk and world silver coins (pre-1946 UK and some American, pre 1968 Canadian , etc.) that I have been keeping since like 2005. When I bought them as "scrap lots" silver was definately cheaper. Sine I colelct "per type", I don't need most of those coins.. I counted them one by one, seperated .500 and .800 silver ones and calculated the silver worth is something between US 320$ to US 330 $. Do you think this I a good time to sell silver?.. ince I checked the silver charts, since 1990, this is the third highest of all times of silver, and since 1975, this is one of the top five (even including 1980 speculations). I don't know, I just like to have jars full of coins, I am not sure if it's Ok to seperate from them or not, thoguh, silver seems high... do you guys thik it is worth eBaying them or do they generally sell well below their melt value on ebay?.. what are your opinions, as I am sure many more experienced members of the forum must have opinions about this... Thanks y'all.

Silver coins on ebay are generally going for well above their melt value, however how much depends on the coin and its condition. Since you bought the silver in 05, I am sure you will make a good profit at this point, but is this a good time to sell depends on if you believe the price of silver is going higher or not and how badly you could use the money right now. Maybe you could sell a portion of it now and hold some in case the price continues to climb.

I personally am holding off selling mine! I think silver will continue to climb! But I guess it depends on what you think silver will do and if you can afford to hold off selling!

Rdwarrior, the coins on that jar are mostly scrap with being a couple of semi-key dates, in F or about condition. Canadian and Australian coins in that jar are common dates with circulated examples. I only have five 1941-1945 American quarters, with highly circulated conditions as well. Perhaps I will seperate Uk coins and the rest, and perhaps offer for sale the others. I am not experienced in precious metals market, yet, seeing the silver going this high, it "tickled" me to think about those coins. Yet, I don't need money at the moment, just going to get married at December 09, perhaps will need some cash about that time, still I can afford keeping those coins. You know, it's too bad to make a decision about them :)

If you do not need the money, hang on to the coins. I believe silver will continue to increase in price. Good luck.

Dollar is very weak, still in global recession, job market remains weak. Fundamentals say silver should climb some more

I was hoping that silver would be higher than $16 and change with gold over $1000. I figured we may see $20 silver again with $1000 gold. Maybe the price just has to catch up. Either way, as you point out, it is at a good price and you should consider selling and purchasing 1 nice coin with the proceeds.

It's only a matter of time before Silver climbs in price, unless the Market get's back in line.

Yeah it looks like GothicFlorin but I have this bad feeling that it will not reach to 19 or 20, and drop a little bit afterwards this month maybe later this month. This is speculating business, with gas, gold and silver, has been all the time. This 17 whatever is probably the best time to sell silver, I think, but I hope I am wrong since I am kind of sitting on a small hill made of silver! (320-340 dollars melt value of scrap and semi-scrap world silver coins).. but I am still unsure if I sell of keep them, I don't need the money right away (even though I dropped two 20-lira banknotes and LOST them just today, walking home from work - yuck!) but the price tempts me I can say that..

IF you don't need the money, why worry about it? If you think you can clean up with a real great amount of money, go for it. The problem is where to sell it. If on ebay or other on line places you could end up making some or loosing. Never know. All depending on you here. The only thing I keep thinking about when people sell for metal value of coins is what happened to someone I know. He took a bag of what he thought was pure junk Silver Mercury dimes to a coin show. He sold the entire bag for Silver only. I know the dealer that purchased that bag. In it he found several 42/41's, one 42D/41 and several 21's. All were in at least VG or better. There were also many offsets, rotated reverses, etc. GEE, I wonder what that bag was really worth.
