Many of you probably know which forum I am talking about (CT), and I am not using this thread to bash them, but I honestly feel like I gotta let off some steam regarding my experiences there. If this isn't allowed, please feel free to remove the thread and let me know. Thanks. Now I am not as major of a member there as I am here, but I still go on a fair bit (or did in the past at least). One of the best things about THIS forum (coincommunity) is that it is so tightly knit, people are relatively respectful, etc. I just don't feel the same way there, and maybe that is why its so tough to land a sale there. In over two years, I have tried to sell at least 20 times on CT, without one single success. Not one. Many people would respond, but would just fade off and lose contact, and the one or two that actually did try to go all the way wanted some ridiculous price for a high end certified coin, like $90 for a 1898-O PCGS VG-10 barber half. I politely pointed to auction realized prices of $160 and up and basically after a few more dialogues the guy just ceased responding. Now I admit, I am not perfect and sometimes can be a little slow with getting pictures, responding etc if the situation in my life isn't the best, but usually I do a decent job. So basically, I'm never going to even bother trying to sell on there any more. I've sold/traded quite a lot of coins on here with great success, even though I am not trying to get rich off my favorite hobby. The extra money is nice but its certainly not the only consideration I have. My conclusion is that because the place is much larger, people are less trusting (understandable), but that its just more impersonal as well. There seem to be a lot of dealers there who are looking to get stuff absurdly cheap and the primary 'advertisements' in the open forum are just to ebay auctions, websites etc. Again not bashing, but it has been pretty frustrating for me and I hope others can understand this. Yeah I guess I also have had a few less than pleasant experiences with certain members there a long time ago, but thats a thing of the past and really not the subject of this thread. It just grinds my gears how it seems like EVERYONE there would be interested, then just fade off. Now this is going to happen a lot, this is just the nature of business, but to not get ONE single sale in over two years is just ridiculous. I don't know where I am going with this really, so give me your thoughts on this, especially if you have experienced or seen similar things there. Or, if you have actually had luck selling there, some tips would be nice. Thanks guys. Edited by coinguybrian 03/09/2010 8:37 pm

I look at both sites nightly, although I do spend 90% of my time here. The one thing that you said that I know is true is the "Open Forum". All I ever see is links to E-Bay. I have bought and sold a few items here, one from you and they were enjoyable. I really have nothing bad to say about CT, because I don't spend much time there.

The easiest and probably the smartest thing to do is just move on. By that I mean to many of us get involved in something that irritates us and just can't let go. If that or any other web site bothers you, just drop it as a place to go. Nothing to loose by ignoring situations that could lead to an ulcer. For coins lately there are probably many web sites poping up all the time competing for customers. Some draw wierdos, some draw experts trying to help and many just draw people that are just nosey as to what other people are doing. You could search and search for a better coin web site that this one but if you find yourself coming here to complain about all the others, it should be obvious to just stay here. Sort of what I mean by just moving on. If you really want to get irritated, have trouble selling coins, finding out information, just join the PCGS web site forum.

Haha yeah I agree....I've pretty much moved on, haven't been there in over a month, just kind of reminiscing. Is PCGS forums really that bad? Someone recommended that I go there...now not so sure.

Yeah, Collectors Universe(PCGS) is a bit of a shark tank. The NGC boards are pretty nice, that is the only other place I lurk, and you get to see lots of eye candy but I think this forum is more active.

This is the only one I've ever been to.....and the only one I ever care to "go" to ! For me....it's about the "people" and not anything else....I feel like I have some good "online" friends here....and kind of have my own little niche here, as do so many others who've been a part of CCF for a lengthy time. We "regular" members are included in my comments too.....but I do think that the good qualities to this site are, in large part, due to our Moderators, and Forum Mom & Dad....in other words, "the way it's run"....they should get full credit ! I've discovered that there are so many brilliant coin collectors here who love to teach, to educate, to share, to conversate, and most importantly, they seem overwhelmingly respectful and kind. That's all I need to want to come here everday ! I've done a little trading.....been the recipient of some VERY kind folks too....but I haven't done the "selling" thing......so I can't speak to that, but I would just say that in this economy, it might be hard to "sell" medium priced coins just about ANYWHERE !....on ANY site....but I don't know.

Though a bit of a shark tank, the Collectors Universe offers more eyeballs because of its heavy traffic. Rolls of junk silver and raw coins do well there. Not so sure about slabbed stuff. The CT buy/sell arena is not that active though I've found helpful people in the discussion forums.

Your thoughts are appreciated, many if not most of us, visit or belong to more than one forum.
While I can not condone what happened to you, we hope that it never happens here.
When this forum was started we came from another forum. The idea behind this one was to be a "family friendly forum" That is why we have the moderators we do.
We invite all to participate and if something gets out of hand or starts to go in the wrong direction, we try to moderate that event so it turns back to the proper heading.
Your post has not been edited as you were stating what happened to you and I for one appreciated the way you worded it, however if this thread were to become a place to bash other forums, the thread would be removed.
As a forum we are always looking for ways to improve, ways to make new members feel welcomed and ways to protect our members.
We hope all who visit here will find Coin community to be their Coin/Banknote/Metal detecting, etc. forum of choice.

Shadow ... first and most important ... it's them and not you. That site doesn't offer the transaction security you get here. They're not even in the ballpark. Here we take care of our own and remove those who would deceive. The audience may be smaller but, hey they're family!

I tried reading, but I just could never get into the CoinTalk site. Can't really say why - it just never caught my interest. I do read the Collector's Universe/PCGS forum from time to time. There are a lot of knowledgeable posters and some nice people it seems, but there are also some big egos and a fair number of dust-ups as well. It's a good place to learn some stuff but I am not likely to ever post there. This site is great!!

I have had very good fortune by using the b/s/t forums here. I've done more horse trading here than anywhere else on the Net...seriously. And, I'm still around. I really like doing business with the people on this board and I think (I hope at least) the same goes for those people with me.

I have never even checked out any of the others; I wouldn't even know what most of them are called! Everybody here is so helpful and nice, and to me it is the only place to go to learn. Long Live CCF!
