I went to my bank to buy a box of Half dollars. The lady told me that somebody just ask to buy $2,500.- worth for Nickels. She said, he is going to hoard and melt them in the future when the price rise. I know for sure it is illegal to melt coins, but I heard it all the times. I know that Pennies worth more than face value, but I didn't know that somebody try to hoard Nickels. Anybody knows that the price of nickel going up? Do I miss something?

Nickel metal is worth more than face. There's also the silver in War Nickels although its low grade. Its illegal to melt like pennies though.

Sorry samuel tan, the replacement of the metal content in nickels has been in the news quite a bit. I have heard of some banks limiting nickel withdraws/purchases to two rolls a customer because of supply issues...lots of people sucking up nickels waiting for them to change to stainless steel.

Must a be a regional thing. Ain't no shortage of nickels here in SE MI. My supply banks are still eager for me to take the excess off their hands. No problem gettin' Brink's or CWI boxes either.

Same, Bowfin.
I get a 1 or 2 boxes of nickels a week from my bank. They don't seem to care.

(by the way Bowfin, did you use the name "bowfin" after the fish or not? just curious.)

reupman, Jefferson nickel Price 1946-2011 Nickel
$0.05 I think, you mean the difference is $0.0685057, which is 137.01% mark up.
If that is right, it means Copper has most mark up among them, except silver and gold.
Thanks.

its the pre 81 canadian nickel that I want, with 99.9% nickel the melt value is above $0.12. I am jealous of the canadian roll searchers.
