An interesting thread. I've considered putting together a set like this.

You could argue that there were three designs for the 1883 nickel.

Edit: removed extra word.

Does the 1982 LMC count?

If the 1982 cent is considered, as John mentioned, what of the other small and large date coins, such as the 1960 cent?

Seeing this is on the Main Forum, I am going to sneak some Canadian Coins in here.
I'm sure there are more but these are the ones commonly known.

1920 Large and Small Cent
2003 Diadement and Uncrowned portrait. This is on all denominations,
one cent, five cent, ten cent, twenty-five cent, fifty cent, one dollar and two dollar.

I hoped for this, which is why it was not moved.

I would add the following for Canada:

- 1942 Five Cent: Regular Nickel coin + 12-sided Tombac version (both feature beaver design)

- 1951 Five Cent: Regular Beaver design + Bicentennial of Nickel Refining Commemorative Design

If we are including composition, will need to add 1942 nickels and the various clad / silver varieties of dimes - dollars.

I was thinking of a completely different design, not just a different composition. I would not include the 1943 Lincoln Cent. I was thinking of a series that ended, and a new series began.

Cool idea for a thread. I've thought about doing a transition set but have yet to find a way to display them (the way I'd want to). If such an album existed or even a Capital display, I'd certainly be filling it!
