1924 is the most common Saint so really a slight value over bullion, I see nothing that screams fake on this one, likely a good one from the photos. definitely weigh and inspect carefully. Lot of ticks and rim dings, I'd be pricing this one at a bit below market value as it's beat up a bit.

I find the speckled appearance of the obverse surfaces to be a bit puzzling.
I must admit that I don't have a definitive answer for that.
It seems a bit odd that the rims are somewhat dinged,
but the rest of the coin looks to be much better, in terms of condition.
There is a reason why the OP has asked for opinions based on the photos.
Accurate weight and comparative ping tone testing would help in any further investigation.
If were to buy it, I would need these extra simple tests to be done.

I agree with kbbpil, looks fake to me. Face looks like a man. But could still be gold, but if fake, probably not. Need weight for that call.

The OBV picture is taken at a slight angle so I don't want to trust how it is showing all of the features. I put a PCGS certified one beside the pic of this one and looked at tiny details. But resolution caused problems in being certain of details matching or not.
Just make sure you can get your money back.

Looks okay to me. If the size and weight are good then you're fine.
You could also buy a certified example for a little more money if you're not comfortable handling raw gold.

Thanks for the insight & opinions. I offered up $1,500, but I have not heard back from him. I still have not viewed in person or wieghed the coin, will do if I hear back.

The fields on the obverse do not look natural. Spot value of a Saint is at $1700. You should be concerned that the coin is a fake if offer accepted $200 below spot. Do not make purchase unless you have return privilege.

If you are buying from a no-name seller I wouldn't waste my time. Odds are too high you will get stuck with a lemon, if you even receive it. TPG certified $20 do not carry a large premium over spot, plus there are plenty of reputable dealers that have these raw for minimal premium that are trustworthy. |

Genuine pieces of pre-1933 U.S. mint gold can be sold for their melt value very quickly and easily. |

I was not trying to rip the guy off with a $1,500 offer, that's 10% below melt. That was my offer, with my risk value figured in. Needless to say, I have not heard back from the guy.
