I was looking over some of my slabbed coinage and it occured to me that I have some rather peculiar partial sets and I wondered how many people share my interests and could give me advice down the road: My sets as best I can describe them: Proof 70 2009-S Set (missing a few pieces) Eisenhower Set (Proof 69 + MS-67 or better silvers and toned MS-65 or better clads) Washington quarters at MS-66 or better, preferably toned African American Set (Carver/ Washingtons, Booker T's, and modern commemoratives) and Sacagaweas (Proof 69 or better + MS-67 or better business strikes)

My sets are circulated to MS coins, with some commemorative coins. I have only a few slabbed/graded coins. I collect 19th and 20th century coins, with the exception of SLQ and Presidential dollars.

My Sets are mostly Dansco albums.......from "circulated" quality up to MS, Proofs, and Silver Proofs, and some albums are a combination of all. A few "folders" thrown in too with some circulated materials. I am constantly at work on Lincoln Cents, Jeffersons, Rosies, Quarters, Halves, and Dollars (Presidents, Native Dollars, Suzy B's) for finishing Sets or upgrading, or just staying current. I have more Classic Sets in the works as well.....but I'm not avidly pursuing those as much.
I've never gotten into "slabs" too much either, except when it's a necessity for authentication purposes.
I prefer the look of the coins inside my "albums". Raw in the hole, so to speak.
Putting slabs in plastic pockets and then a binder or something, might be something I'd be interested in at a future time though.

My collecting is limited to maintenance of my existing sets. My ASE's are near complete with the arrival of the 25th anniversary set today (still need the 1995 w). My modern proof dollars will be continued next year as well as my silver sets of Roosevelt dimes, Washington quarters and Kennedy halves. As far as my other sets they will have to wait for better economic times with goals for completion of: early commemorative silver types, Proof cameo Franklin halves, and XF or better Walking Liberty halves.

I have quite a few partial sets of coins that I have collected out of circulation over the years. I have recently been working on my Mercury dime set and silver Washington quarters. I also picked up a Dansco 7070 album that I hope to add a coin to every once in a while when I stumble across a good deal.

I collect anything that was being minted in the mid 20th century on. I do not do any special commemorative. Lincoln cents, Jeff Nickels, Rosie dimes, Wash quart, Franklin & Kennedy halves, Pres, Sac, Anthony dollars) eaglefoot, I think we are collecting the same stuff. You are like me, I just can't say no to a series . Plus I like the variety, if I get a little burnt out on a series I switch to another.

I collect all denominations, all years, all mints, all types as long as they are round and called coins. Of course there are a lot of not so round ones, some called mills, some called tokens, etc. About 75% are all in Albums. About 75% are Whitman Albums. Also, plastic rolls of coins, boxes of coins in 2x2's and numerous coins in jars waiting to be sorted.

Quote: My Sets are mostly Dansco albums.......from "circulated" quality up to MS, Proofs, and Silver Proofs, and some albums are a combination of all. Same here. Most of the business strikes came from circulation with the ultra-modern (~1980 and up) stuff being higher grades. Most proof holes were filled from broken proof sets.

I used to be a set collector before I got to be a dealer. I at one time wanted all the Half Dollars ever made in the U.S. A lofty goal, I know. At one point, though, I did have every U.S. half Dollar from 1892 - 2007 (All the Barbers to what was then the most recent), and about 27 Seated pieces and 4 Busts. When I started into coin dealing, these virtually got my business off the ground.

I collect circulated $1 and $.50 coins of all varieties (and make it a point to re-circulate my modern culls) where my wife is into roll-searching pennies.
It's the thrill of the hunt. :-)

Currently working on a set of ASE's, but that will take forever to complete. Also need to finish my set of MS Ikes. I just need 4 or 5 coins and that one's done. Once I finish the Ike set, I will start working on a full set of Kennedys. I have all the Kennedys from '73 to '78.
