As we approach the end of this year, I wonder if I, and others have met the goals they set this time last year.

I think there was a couple of links, where members were posting what they would like to do with their collections for 2011.

Here is one of the links I found.

https://goccf.com/t/87337

Let us know how you did with this past years goals

A couple of mine were

"My two big goals for this year (2011) are to complete my

Dansco Lincoln 8100
and
Dansco Type set 7070"

What I ended up doing this past years was.
For my Lincoln 8100
I did complete all the coins needed for my 8100,
(1909 S vdb, 1914 D and 1909 S) but not the 1922 No D.
I am not really sure what I want to do with that slot, because it is a coin I have no desire to own.

For my 7070 - I did fill all the holes, and even upgraded
a few coins. This time last year my 7070 did not have the
gold page. As of last week it does .. so now I need about 8 more coins to fill my 7070.

I am pretty sure I wanted to complete my Roosevelt dime set. Sort of stalled on that for now.

Other accomplishments for the year 2011
- Purchased five 25th anniversary ASE sets, sold three
- Filled in some of my missing proof ASE's
-- only need three more, not counting the 1995 W

- Purchased more UNC silver dollar commemorative UNC coins
-- Need 14 more to complete set

- Put more silver away
-- Started/Completed dollar date set 1878 - date
-- Purchased Several Morgan dollar, to aid in learning VAMS
-- Purchased $100 face in silver dimes
-- Purchased misc silver coins when they
were a good deal, to include a five once Grand Canyon

- Purchased two gold coins for my 7070
-- 1927 St Gauden and 1908 2 1/2 Indian

I also bought a lot of other coins ..
Most of them not on any of my list of coins I need.

I am not sure if setting goals for this year will help ..
It seems most of the coins I buy .. are not on my lists

I exceeded mine.
I spent way too much but I have had a ball with the coins.
I finished all my Aussie predecimals and am now having a crack at collecting US coinage.
I have even started to collect the decimal coins of Aus But hay I can get them out of my small change

I don't have any collecting goals!
I don't even have a plan.

However, I DO have a strategy.

I will collect anything that interests me, and appears to be good value for money, strictly in the area of coins only ancient to modern, up to about 1950, when silver was beginning to be withdrawn from World coinage. Not really interested in collecting NCLT.

With that sort of wide scope to collecting, there is always something that is worth looking at.

Picked up some nice type coins and my IHC Dansco is almost complete. I do however want to start a 7070 for 2012! I have many of the coins needed to fill the slots.

with you Sel. The NCLT coins are just a bunch of coins aimed at collectors at a high premium and have nothing whatsoever to do with the way I collect coins.
If they havent been used to buy somthing they are not real money to me, just trinkets to lure gullable collectors

My wife told me that I exceeded my goals by a long-shot ... then she reiterated just how far she thinks that I exceeded my goals in 2011 (oh, and then she also threw-in that I'd never amount to nuthin') => so I took her double-negative as a sign that she really thinks that I'm a star and that I can do even better in 2012 ...

=> man, she's awesome!

... I'm kidding of course

=> "yes, I gathered-up a lot of coins in 2011, and some really nice ones, so I'm very pleased with the past year"

=> well done, stevex6 (that'll do pig, that'll do)

I was of the opinion that everyone bought what they felt like at the time.
I have a heap of coins that I had no intention of making a collection of, I only got them because I liked the look of them but in the end they became a collection on their own.
My, why on earth did you buy that collection
Each to their own I recon

I jumped back into this hobby this year after a long hiatus (Marriage, 3 kids, work, college, career, 3 teenagers by this time, a couple of work moves - including TWO in the last year!).

I would always try to pick up an UNC Lincoln Wheat or two whenever I found them in my travels.

The last three months of this year have been phenomenal for my collection though. With several excellent Wheats purchased from members here, I am very, very close to completing my Wheat collection. Yes, I am missing the S VDB, but that will come in due time.

Thanks to CCF members for providing a wonderful place to enjoy, share, and learn this hobby! THANK YOU!
Rest in Peace

In that earlier thread I said...

Quote:
My first quarter has been spent planning. I am contemplating some changes with how I keep my dark-side coins. Currently they are in 2x2s and kept in a Dansco album with 12-pocket 2x2 pages. I want to move them to Dansco millimeter pages. The current stage is calculating what size pages I need.
I never got any further than that.

My goal is always to buy some coins and fill some holes.

In 2011 I bought some coins and filled some holes.

I would like to complete something in 2012.

I mentioned in another thread that my Buffalo nickel set has the best chance of being completed in the next twelve months. This is based on total cost, not the number of holes remaining (eight). The Mercury dimes and Lincoln cents both only have three holes, but the total cost is well above when the Buffalo nickels would cost.

I remember for my goal for this year I wanted my entire collection to exceed 10 million Dollars in value. Fell a bit short by about 9 million, 9 hundred thousand, 99 thousand + or - a few hundred.
Really never had any goals except to complete as many Albums as possible. Problem with that is I constantly start new ones.

If my goal was to convert a fat wad of gov't. paper currency into obsolete silver discs of various sizes, origins and denominations, I surely succeeded.
Whether there is a coherent order or purpose to all that gathering remains to be seen. I am blessed with a few good local sources in addition to the e-monster, that offer a continuous flow of stuff I find hard to refuse.

Nope nothing much this year, the proof coins I looked at weren't quite the quality/price I wanted to pay, and I didn't upgrade any coins in the 2¢ collections this past year, the only one I found that I want/need - I can't afford it right now - an 1864 Small Motto in MS66.
