Can you imagine, you come home from a hard days shift and you find your spouse jumping up and down for joy yelling that "We just received that Key date coin we bought on E-bay last week, honey!" Wow, how awesome life would be for us, or would it? Tell us what you think it would be for you? Glenn

My wife isn't passionate about coins, but she watches for things that might be of interest. Just today she gave me a 1942 ( no mint mark) nickel she found in circulation. Not a War Nickel, but worth adding to my bowl of coins I want to keep even if they're of no particular value monetarily. That's pretty cool!

My wife is even more interested in collecting than I am. And she isn't picky about type of US coin or bills that she likes. She does insist that we keep as much of it as possible in our bank accounts. This has created a serious slow down in the growth of my own collection.

My husband is - he has gotten back into collecting since we married 5 years ago. Our priorities are the same: as long as bills are paid and retirement is funded, then if I get something "good", he grabs the loupe and we drool together . Our ideal date nite is sushi, coin stores and then Barnes and Noble or Best Buy if we have the stamina!

My wife supports me fully since I was collecting when we met 28 plus years ago. But if I show her the latest find I get the obligatory "That's nice dear"

Take it from me, it would put a very big dent in your buying power when it came to attending shows and going to the coin shop. I try to fund my buying binges at these venues with the sale of 90% & 40% Kens I get from roll hunting only to have her throw it away on modern ASE's mean while I find myself having to pull out my reserve wad of cash to buy what I want. Her persistent buying of silver rounds has nearly taken over the home safe and I fear that I will have to soon fork out for another bank box to put my good stuff in.

People who have passionate views on the same subject can come into conflict.
It may be fortunate that your spouse may have less interest in coin collecting than you do. At least be thankful for that. As long as you get support from him / her, you should both be happy.
I get vibes that this is most often the case with CCF members.

Maybe I should include this question to a potential wife. Do you collect coins or bills/notes? a new version of "what's your sign?"

I have to say we have had no conflicts, it is so much fun at coin shows when he finds something he really likes. And Friday nights are the nights we go through our change (nothing tonight). I guess I should mention we are both in the same field (information technology) so we always have things to talk about.

Some people have Aries or Capricorn or whatever for signs. Some others have $ (dollar) signs. I am not so rich. 'Cents' signs are good enough for me.

If my wife was as passionate about collecting as me...WE would be farther along on OUR 7070 collection!

I'm just glad my girlfriend understands. None of that "Why are you paying $20 for a $1" type stuff..lol
Then again, I haven't really made such purchases, nor have we shared an income...
Hmm.. (makes mental note of questions to ask her...)

I like things just the way they are between my wife and I.
We are both collectors, I have my coins and banknotes she has her Buddha figurines/medallions/icons etc.
We are both tolerant of spending on our individual collections. In fact the largest outlay, with mutual consent and let's face it anything to keep ones beloved happy - in this case about $700, was on a sealed earthenware jar from a temple site (contents unknown). When we cleaned and opened up the jar it contained 99 small Buddha effigies worth about $50 each.
