I am simply shaking my head at ebay listings like this... how could this coin be possibly worth the same as a mint state 1955 NSF cent, or a 1948 dollar in VF? Are ebay sellers adopting the philosophy of P.T. Barnum, and hoping that "There's a sucker born every minute"? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Canada-10-c...271119878158"Discovery follows discovery, each both raising and answering questions, each ending a long search, and each providing the new instruments for a new search." -- J. By his theory, the last one is upside down. If that's the case, then the first one is missing a piece. It is as it says on the holder..a die chip.

I believe the 6 and the 9 are also upside down. The actual date of this coin is 1691, making it a rare and desirable piece.....:)

Changed his name. I would be careful with this seller he says he restores coins also uses a wax substance to, what he calls preserve coins

He has been on CCF a few times under different names, I think he's 'on vacation' now.

Just another coin listed as an attention getter.I believe the seller is neither stupid nor crooked, merely misguided. We've seen his rants here on this forum, his ambition is to become the King of Canadian varieties.

Anyone have a link to one of his comments or posts in previous threads here? Are you talking about the same person here?

The discussion in this topic has been rather interesting. For disclosure I am a novice collector and generally my interest is in the last 25 years or so. It does interest me to see how things are described and priced in this crazy world of numismatics. There does not seem to be anything misleading in the listing. There is full disclosure of the piece. It is described properly and there is no attempt to hide any facts. Kudos to this seller if they can get the price they are asking. Let the market decide. There are much bigger issues in my mind like when well known participants in the industry list an otherwise common uncirculated set as an error just because there is one coin in the set which is reversed in the package. The thing even sells for a 100% premium. Really what kind of numimatic value is there in that. But then again I may be a poor judge of these things. This topic started with the question about why anyone would pay so much for a die chip. That seems to be a valid question and issues on the personal aspects of this seller just muddle the water.
