Here's a nice 1888 5 cent coin in need of a reality check and also a little test in some accurate grading.. Tricky toning too.. If you have trouble because of the partial focus ,.. and motley toning .. I understand. My digital microscope(soon) will hopefully cure that.. Good luck with this tricky one.. I can't see any obvious wear on this coin and the surfaces look original to my eyes. I'll take a punt at MS64

Hmmmmm...
I think it is MS 63 but tough to tell through all the plastic and the toneing doesent make grading it any easier either.

That's a beauty. I'll take 64 all day on this coin. Maybe a 65.

MS62----Because it is so ugly---I want to see mirror fields for a 64.

lambecolin...You're a hard one to please,..
...but I too would love to see all of my vicky coins with mirror fields.(ie: cameos) In hand it's not really that "ugly"...
My 'avatar 1858 5 cent piece' is basically the only true mirrored field vicky that I've ever seen. ICCS graded this 1888 in the 90's.
Thanks for the comments so far.....
Maybe a few others will "take a stab"... and I'll post at the end of the day.

Knowing how the love fest is at ICCS with toned coins and Brian's love of 5 cent silvers, and the fact this was graded very early on I am going to say you own one of the 2 MS 66 coins in the pop report. Looks like one heck of a coin even from the picture! Drool!

Although I feel this is a solid 64 and pushing 65 I have this sneaky feeling that the toning caused this to drop and he gave you a 63

Well it is in with a known group of 10 others. With probably a few more out there to discover. These little guys do look better in the hand and with a 7X loop and not blown up to the size of a plate. Thanks for the comments and trying to see through the blur and tricky toning. ..and playing along.

Pacificoin.....The 10 others that I refer to are the ICCS pop reports showing 10 of this date at MS 65 ..and there are also 2 others above it at MS 66.

With the differences in grading this coin, just goes to show that you really need the coin in 'hand' to tell. Beautiful coin Devlec..
