There is no legislation or executive order making them such, unlike the small dollars, where the Presidential dollar was halted in 2012 by executive order and the Innovation dollars which are NCLT by legislation. The half dollars are NIFC because the Federal Reserve is not ordering them from the Mint to replenish stock to serve the banks. That being said, according the the mintage numbers, the 2018 and 2021 are higher than normal, with 2020 slightly higher. This excess was likely ordered by the Fed to satisfy demand from the banks and thus were "issued" for circulation. It is also interesting to note that 2013 was an atypical year. I now wonder how often the 2013 half dollars are showing up compared to other "NIFC" years. I have noticed while watching RobFindsTreasure's channel that he has been getting lots of 2021 and 2022 uncirculated half dollar boxes, which supports the idea that those years either aren't really NIFCs or that they were released in that particular part of the country. It depends on where the banks are that order them what their district FRB has in the vault to send them. I stopped at a favorite bank the other weekend and asked for halves. The teller said she had 88 rolls and was eager to offload them. Sensing another collector's rejects, I timidly agreed to buy $100. Two of the ten rolls were loaded, with twenty-five 40%ers between them. I went back the following Monday for the other 78 rolls, but they contained no silver. It was a little disappointing, but I can hardly complain after such good luck. Report this Post to the Staff

I eagerly took them, since this was the first time, he said he had some loose ones in the drawer. I took all $12.50, and he placed them in bank pouch with my penny rolls. Man was I surprised to find my first 40% silver Kennedy, then another and then 3 more. A 1966, (3) 1967, and a 1968. A trip well worth it. Report this Post to the Staff
