Judging them is beyond my skillset. Strongly advising you to never look at one of these with an optimistic mindset isn't. Just like Trade dollars, start with NO and be proven wrong. It's a ton easier on your heart.

Both have seams down the edges and symptoms of casting, so I'mafraid both are counterfeit.

Can someone please explain what a seam on the edge looks like?

Fake for sure I am afraid. Cast copies of colonial coins have been popular for many years so there are a lot of the earlier ones made before they had to be marked as copies.

The mass. 1788 cent is a highly counterfeited coin. I personally own one myself.

Both replicas. Many of both of these can be found on ebay as the real deal. I have reported hundreds.

They were sometimes sold in sets or groupings of different sizes. I have a few that are still in their original, plastic holders. The word COPY was typically absent back then. Ironically, the casting gives these copies a more aged appearance.

HMMM ... the WM New Hampshire is of course a $15 coin ... they seem to bring that now ... saw one recently in a Stacks/Bowers sale ... seriously.
That Mass. electrotype ... I am thinking $75-up. Try it on E-Bay. Call it a 19thC electrotype ... quite scarce ... IMO.

Say what these things have that much value? And I can sell them on ebay sans repercussion So the mass is like a contemporary counterfit? And why would stacks be selling the wm?

Quote:And I can sell them on ebay sans repercussion Maybe. Technically against the rules but we have to hold them at gunpoint to enforce their rules as it is. John (if he speaks on these, you listen) was being derisive of Stacks, I think. But if the Mass is an early electrotype, it actually has a dedicated collector base.
