I want dansco albums- I just dont have enough income though. So, I stick with folders.

... I went with Wizard b/c of the inexpensive cost. I wanted to get my coins out of the folders b/c I have lost some good coins to the humidity trapped in the cardboard. But I also thought the albums may not be the final solution I use - just temporary. So instead of putting huge amounts of money out for Danscos, I got the Wiizard albums in one lot (saved on shipping this way also). Folders are not that much less expensive than some of these albums anyway.

Been there done that with the folders. Can't see the reverse side of the coin, obverse is unprotected, coins sometimes fall out of the folder, they look and feel flimsy and cheap.

Even something common like a Kennedy half set is several hundred dollars to finish in decent grade. The difference between a $5 folder or $25 album gets lost in the cost of the coins. |

Wizard album prices... Merc Dimes and SBA are 19.99 ea. Indian Head cents and Lincoln Cents are 15.00 ea. Buffalo nickels 10.00 The following are all 5.00 each: Jefferson, Roosevelt, Washington quarters, State Q's (3 different types of albums), Walking Liberty, Franklin, JFK, Morgan 1, Morgan 2, Peace, Ikes, Sacs, ASE So the cost is negligible on completion of a full set of most of these. I still think CCF should somehow get together and make our own 7070 replacement  |

Many years ago, I used Whitman folders. When I switched to albums, the coins included in Dansco albums fit better with my collection ideas & goals.  |

I use Intercept Shield albums for the "usual" series, but use Dansco for the not-as-usual stuff. For example, Dansco for two- and nickel three-cent pieces; Dansco for Shield nickels, Dansco for a make-my-own for a series not carried, by, well, anybody. Dansco has good selections for make-your-own albums. But I like the Intercept Shield look--more "modern." But Dansco is reliable and more, uh, versatile. |

I just joined Coin Community [and am so glad I found y'all!] with questions like this on my mind. I'd been cautiously using folders for my brilliant uncirculated coins because I didn't know any better. They're not aging as well as I would like. I'm on the verge of transitioning to Dansco, but am now hearing about the Intercept Shield brand.
More than cost of the albums, my concern is what is best for the health of the coins. Is the Intercet brand established enough to have sound science behind its claims? How many use them and how are they for viewing the coins?

I have been using Dansco albums for just over 30 years and have zero complaints. The key to album success is that you store them in a location with low humidity and a stable (if not low) temperature.
I have never used Intercept Shield albums. The only thing I can say is that they probably have more in common with Dansco than any other brand.

For storing, store with a desiccant. I also found if you can find a furniture store who is willing, they get large dessicent packs in with the furniture they assemble in the back room. My son worked for such a store. It took 3 months and he gave me an entire Wal-mart bag filled to the brim. Otherwise it just ends up in landfills - a big waste. |
