No, I use one bank for all my dumping--a locally-owned one where the tellers know me and are very friendly and understanding about it. I went through the preliminary research of identifying which banks around me allow non-members and people without business accounts to do monetary transactions and had a lot of early success at all the banks I went to. I don't live in a major metro area (which I'm sure is part of the problem), and I have six banks within a two-mile radius that I knew I could get nickels from. Maybe three to four times this in a fifteen mile radius. It's just so happened that the past few times I've gone to banks (even ones I've successfully gotten nickels from) the conversation goes something like this:
Me: I have one hundred dollars that I would like to exchange for fifty rolls of nickels please.
Teller: Um, nickels?
Me: Yes, nickels. I have a few friends who are looking for the 2009s and some older ones. I go through rolls to help them get these. (A slight lie unless Me, Myself, and I count as friends, but it doesn't hurt to make myself sound less strange)
Teller: Uh... I dunno if we can let you do that. Lemme go ask.
(after a minute or two, the teller comes out with the manager)
Teller: We can't give you nickels.
Me: May I ask why?
Teller: Uh, we just can't.
Manager: I'm sorry, but we're going to have to ask you to leave.
And other similar occurrences.
I live in southern Ohio, east of Cincinnati. I don't go to a single bank enough for anyone to recognize me, so I just don't get the sudden change of heart everywhere.

Cincinnati? Not far from me (Lexington KY). Being in a small town is probably hurting you; I can't get a single small bank in Lex to sell me anything except half dollars (which most banks are thrilled to be rid of). But, Fifth Third, Chase, National City, and Central Bank are all more than happy to sell nickels to me (with a few exceptions, and I avoid those branches). Many times I do have to settle for customer rolls, but most are happy to give me a box. Granted, like AG said, being in a metro area (and having something like 60+ branches in Lexington alone of the above four banks) is an advantage. How far east of Cincy are you? Close enough to be worth the trip to the Metro area? Try Chase and Fifth Third and National City (don't think there are any Central Banks in Cincy) you should have no problem with any of them.

I think starting out asking for $100.00 worth is a bit much. In the olden days when I did this, I started out asking for a few rolls, and they would ask me how many. Then I would say whatever you can spare. Eventually they warmed up to me. I could even go from one town and exchange them for bills at another bank if I wanted. Overwhelming the bank for all those rolls is just a pain for them. A few is no problem. Another thing, that asking for them and saying they are for a friend might turn them off when they probably can tell you want them. Best to be honest and just tell them they are for you. I would pull over on the milk route in the shade, catch up on my books, re-arrange the load from the empties and then go through maybe 3 or 5 rolls and eat my lunch. The good ones I rolled up in one of the empty wrappers, replaced the money bag with 2 one dollar bills of my own and put the rest in the company money bag. Doing this everyday on the route added up. I did it with halves once in awhile but only for silver since I don't care much for Kennedy halves.

I guess I underestimated the possibility of even the experts having problems sometimes. You see, I'm kind of a pessimist and chalk it up to my own bad luck I'm a little far from the Cincy metro area to make it there on a regular basis, but there's no harm in trying the larger banks when I'm there. Maybe the trick is to find banks that are too busy to be suspicious of anyone. I'm sure my problems finding cooperative banks will be somewhat lessened after next year, as upon graduating from college I plan on moving to a more urban area. $100 may be a bit much, although since that's the quantity that comes in a Brinks box I had always figured that it would be the most convenient-sounding sum to a teller. Maybe they're not all familiar with the contents of their own vaults? I'll try smaller quantities at the places that have turned me down and see if they're more amenable to that. I hate having to lie and it's not really working out in my favor anyway, so I suppose it's time to change to something more low-key. My only problem now is that I just kind of wish that the tellers would tell me they can't do it on company grounds instead of being tight-lipped and staring at me like a deer in headlights. I must have a really ugly face and not know it.

Pierrot, don't you dare get discouraged! They have that coin for their business customers, and they order it, periodically, as needed. If I were you, I'd just request that they order you a box. They may make you put the cash up in your account, in advance, and, they may even charge you some nominal fee (I'd complain at that, though, if they did). If they give you guff, do what Gothic said, go right to the top. I'd just ask for the bank manager, and lay it on the line to him or her. And, never, ever forget: you have a relationship with your bank. If they're not being reasonable with you, dump them like you dump your junk nickels. In fact, I'd close out the account, right there, right in front of the bank manager, if push indeed came to shove.
Look, good luck, and let us know if you're having any more problems, pal, I'll get out my machine gun... ;)

I actually had a bank demand that I close my account due to my activities! I complained to the branch Manager and to the District Manager about the refusal of the branch to sell me coin! So I started using them as a dump bank and that's when they sent a letter demanding me to close my account or they would do it for me! The funny thing is that I get better service from banks I don't have an account with then I did from my own bank! Go figure! I agree that it is best to ask your bank to order you a box! Or even ask a couple of branches to order you a box! Be courteous and pleasant! The banks order coin for their business accounts and don't always have extra to spare (especially at smaller branches with smaller vaults). Most all the banks around here know me by sight because I'm always asking for Half dollars! My bank couldn't sell me a box of nickels because I bought the last one the day before! I went across the street and got a box plus some quarters and dimes! Don't even have an account with them, but they see me all the time and I'm always pleasant and polite!

Just to update everyone on my finds so far... Today I finished up my fifth box this week, though I only averaged 21 pre-60s per box, I did find some nice additions to my set. I finally found not one but two 1946-S, as well as an XF+ 1938-D. After finding these two I now only lack 4 to complete my set! I also found a 1928-D and a 1937 Buffaloes, as well as a 1943-D War Nickel (my second so far).

Haha! Usually when I ask for "10 rolls of cents" I get the reply, "pennies?" or "10 rolls or 10 dollars?" or "5 dollars worth?"

Even though I don't track them, I pull all pre 1983 Canadians. I thought 1982 was included on the list; does the high nickel content only go up to 1981? If 1982 is included, I have pulled somewhere around 70 since I started the 25,000 rolls, and maybe 10 or so of those were 1982. Again, that is in Central Kentucky! Oldest found was a 1950.

Another Update! Odd thing to note about the Dateless Buffalo in this update; the date had been restored before! So the coin was found dated, but someone else had Nic-a-Date'd it before I found it. Strange! 100 rolls 55 pre-1959 BREAKDOWN: Dateless Buffalo,(5)1939,(3)1940,(7)1941,1941d,1941s,(2)1942,1942S(silver),1946,1946d,1946s,(4)1947,1947d,1947s,(2)1948,1948d,1948s,(2)1952,1952d,1953s,1954,(2)1954d,(2)1955d,1956,(2)1956d,(2)1957d,1958,(6)1958d 1 Proof (2007s) Note: Also found a possible 1963 Proof; very prooflike surfaces, and Full Steps (save for a slash mark through two of the steps) MS65FS Jeffersons are scarce; they list at $200. So 1963 nickels with steps are scarce. Something about this coin, though; not ready to call it a proof. Need to show it to a few people for opinions. Super nice, but wouldn't make MS65, maybe 62 or 63. Restored date on the Buffalo: 1915 GRAND TOTALS TO DATE: 11500 rolls 5044 pre 1959 (5 most common: 1958d(479),1957d(389),1941(351),1940(331),1946(284) 172 Silver Nickels (3 most common: 1943P(43),1945P(32),1944P(30)) 22 Liberty nickels (1901,(2)1902,(2)1903,1904,(3)1906,(3)1907,1908,(3)1909,1910,(3)1911,1912,1912d) 47 Buffalo nickels ((16)dateless,1918,1919,(3)1920,1920d,1924,(4)1927,1928,1928s,(3)1929,1929s,(4)1935,(6)1936,1936d,(2)1937,1938d) 16 Proof (1961,1963,1964,1970s,1971s,(2)1974s,(2)1986s,1987s,1988s,1993s,1994s,2003s,(2)2007s) 4 1990d NO FS Designer Initials 1 Henning Counterfeit (1939) 1 Australia 5 cents (1982) 6 Bermuda 5 cents (1970,1986,1987,1996,2000,2001) 13 Bahamas 5 cents (1981,1987,(3)1998,(5)2000,(2)2004,2005) 4 Belgium 1 Franc (1958,1963,1969,1975) 1 Brazil 5 Centavos (1994) 1 Cayman Islands 10 Cents (2002) 1 Dominican Republic 5 Centavos (1987) 1 East Caribbean States 2 Cents (2002) 2 Germany 50 Pfennig (1972,1985) 1 Italy 20 Centimes (1941) 1 Latvia 1 Lats (1992) 1 Mexico 50 Centavos (1993) 1 Norway 1 Kroner (1997) 1 Saudi Arabia 10 Halala (date unknown) 1 Somalia 5 Shillings (2000) 6 Switzerland 20 Rappen (1943,1960,1969,(3)1970) 1 Taiwan 1 Yuan (1983) 1 Tanzania 50 Senti (1990) 1 Thailand 1 Baht (2004) 1 Cincinnati Ohio Transit Token 1 Namco Amusement Token AND STILL NO 2009!

No 2009? I got about 5-6 in my last box. Need one or five? Plus, the ever elusive 39-D popped out.
