My duplicates are slowly turning into a hoard in binders. I love CRH and I end up with coins that I already have and I place them in 2x2s and into binders. Every time I search through a box, it grows and I keep adding new coins with no specific order; I have halves, quarters, dimes, etc. all on one page and in mixed order of dates/mintmarks. I don't think anyone takes out all the coins from the binder everything they get a new coin to rearrange and make some sort of order. How do you store you duplicates? Pictures would be great too.

I never keep duplicates, ever. I never deliberately buy duplicates. My duplicates go into a box, labelled "BOX OF SHAME" because I'm embarrassed to have spent perfectly good money buying a duplicate of a coin I already owned. I raid the box every three months when my coin club publishes a tender sale list, and if it gets too full despite the constant raiding, I take them down to the nearest coin dealer and exchange them for coins that hopefully aren't duplicates.

Most of my duplicates are put into plastic coin holders. I have been in the habit of setting aside all 2009 coins that cone into my hands. Ever since I started collecting coins I have been in the habit of first putting the best example in my album, then I start putting them into the plastic coin holders and then culling out the worst once a month or so that a better coin can be added.
I can see a time when I also will stop doing this and then who knows.
I found that putting my duplicates into a 2x2 really eats up space so I just use the plastic coin holders.
Like Sap I never buy a duplicate coin but if I come across a worthwhile duplicate in circulation I will keep it.

I also tend to not keep any duplicates. When I got 2 coins of the same type I keep the one with the better grade and sell or exchange the other.
There are a couple of exceptions though. When I get some coins from people that are important to me, I keep them. I usually put them in 2x2s in a folder and would never sell or exchange them.

The times when I keep duplicates is when I cannot decide which one to keep. To make matter worse, some are key dates and I know it would free up quite a fair bit of money if I let some go. A few have not appeared in the market for more than 5 years!
It's usually the case of one coin have nicer obverse than the other however the reverse is not. Or one is in XF+ condition however harshly cleaned, the other is in VF condition.

What to do with the duplicates ... For some of us that can be a big problem. At first I did the 2x2's in binders ... Then moved to putting the 2x2's into 2x2 boxes. Then into coin tubes and coin tube boxes. Recently I have been filling storage boxes with over flow. Of course if you have enough duplicates .. you can always put together more albums. Some series, I do the with proof albums, but will also do the with out proof album.

Too many duplicates to organize, so it is chaos at my end. I have some duplicates loose, some in 2x2s, some in binders, some in coin folders, some in plastic tubes, some in coin wrappers. You get the drift. I'm working on a complete roll set of Kennedy halves in BU including silver and there are some dates I have so many extras of that I have started to spend them, especially the 76 P and D and 71D.

My pile of NIFC halves is growing every week and I just can't get myself to spend them. And my binder of duplicates is just sitting there collecting dust because no one is interested in the coins I have there, but I still can't get myself to spend those either. Therefor, I am having trouble keeping up with all that stuff. What do I do?!

@Hello There, I would spend them. The market is very limited for sellers. As a new collector you need to look at what is selling. With new NIFC halves there is not enough demand. The U.S Mint sells them in bags, not sure of the amount because I was not interested in buying.

I used to put them in 2x2's in binders but, I was getting overwhelmed with binders. I now put them in 2x2 boxes that take up less space. I label the boxes and put them in order by year and denomination, makes it easier for me when I'm looking for a specific coin. 2x2 boxes single row or double row are cheaper than binders, oh what to do with all the 20 pocket 2x2 pages I have now.

I keep a list of them...the better ones in album pages the rougher ones in bags by country.
I try to trade some off... I would never intentionally aquire them but sometimes they are part of lots or discovered in my pockets.

Sort of like GR58. I've been putting my duplicates in 2x2's then into those long red, 2 row Whitman boxes. When I suspect there is enough to make an Album, I take them out and put into Albums. This means I have many duplicate Albums. I never sell coins but have given some away. However, now with well over 100 Albums, might me time to rethink this duplicate system.

I try to avoid duplicates, especially since I do not upgrade. That is not to say I do not have any. I have acquired a few for various reasons over the years. The most important duplicates were acquired to fill out my Dansco albums (the unlabeled holes, examples include the four extra holes in the Eisenhower album and five extra holes in the Franklin). Some duplicates end up in 2x2 holders.
