Hello everyone! This is my very first post in the community and I have a question for the very well informed (you all). I started collecting coins only just recently. I'm hooked! So far, I have accumulated a variety of coins, all US. I have a couple of Morgan dollars, a couple of Ike dollars, a Native American dollar, a Franklin half, a Kennedy half, several Jefferson nickels, a Roosevelt dime, an SBA dollar, lots of Lincoln pennies and so on. Scattershot, for sure! All of the above coins are slabbed by NGC (except the Kennedy and Native American, which are PCGS). And here's the question and matter, I have decided that I want to collect US coins, but only in the raw state. In the beginning, I thought the slabs "looked cool" but now they no longer fit my need. I would be interested in selling these slabs so I can get down to collecting raws. Would anyone recommend a place to sell my modest collection as a whole? I would love to generate some money to start working on my US coin books. Oh I should mention, the value of my lot is small. I purchased each of these coins for around $10, with the exceptions of the Franklin, Big Sky Hoard Ike, and two Morgans. Total, 18 coins. Thanks everyone in advance for your advice!

Just crack them out of the slab and they'll once again be raw.

I thought that as well Dave. Sometimes the easiest solution is the simplest.

I had the same thought. I even watched a couple of YouTube videos on how to "dismantle" a slab with a hammer. But in the end, I decided that selling is probably best. I am sure there is someone interested in owning these graded coins...and I might even find 'em!

Spend some time on CCF. Post some pictures of your collection. Get the required post count. FYI In most cases it is hard to buy a coin, hold it for a short time, sell it, and not lose money on it.

I will most definitely stick around. The forum is chock full of good info. And, I am really not trying to make any money here (wouldn't mind losing a few bucks). I'd be happy finding homes for these coins. Someone looking for NGCs etc.
Thanks!

Yep just like an old pro now. You might consider posting pics of a coin over in the appropriate forum (e.g. Classic US coins) and get the opinions of others. I understand that they are already slabbed, but I think you will find interested viewers and graders no matter what the coin.

That sounds like a good plan. It'll be fun, conversations about coins.

I say crack them. It will take an effort to list, ship, and sell them. Even then you might not recoup the money needed to replace them with raw coins. to the Community!

You can buy wonderful stiff Mylar pages that holds 9 TPG per page. Then you could keep them in a binder with your raw coins. If you have $10 TPG coins they will likely lose nearly all of their value if you crack them out.

I have no slabbed coins. I've purchased some and just break them out.
