I have been collecting coins for 51 years now. I am sure I have close to 500 lbs + of wheat pennies. Started when I was 6. I have a great deal of error coins. This 1945 Wheat penny I had for 50 years now. I might need to take better pictures. It does have a double strike where there two 45 to right but twisted. I wanted to start sending error coins off for grading. Would I be wasting my time or a least know what I have. *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

Hi Army Ghost.. ..to CCF we want you to enjoy your stay with us. Your coin doesn't look like an 'error' to me it is more PMD something has happened to it to cause the damage you see it looks like it may have been a 'vise' job.

to the forum! I agree with it being damaged. It isn't a mint error or variety and wouldn't be worth more than Copper value.

Why, I can't figure out. Note the coin is out of round? That is the first clue it has been altered. The flattened rim is the second clue. PSD. Incuse marks on the coin is third clue it has been altered. So any one of these will be the determining factor. Welcome to the forum.

Yes, to the Forum. I too, collected coins for many years. I collected them by date and mint. This place has opened up a whole new world to me, one of Varieties and Errors. If you hang around here, you'll be amazed at how much more enjoyable the hobby can be. your coin is PSD (Post Strike Damage). I also agree with Moxking, while everyone has known it, I believe I was the first one to call him that.

Quote: Kind of reminds of a fuse box coin. I hadn't thought about that in years. We lost a lot of good houses that way. 500 lbs of wheatbacks, (some with wear) = 71,685 pennies = $716.85 = $1,234.48 today's intrinsic value. I don't see how you can go wrong - even after picking out 239 nice ones. You'd better get started right away though, it's going to take a year if you check 196 pennies everyday. lol
