So, since I dont know much about a lot of these coins I figured I'd post this for myself & others for learning & to avoid mistakes. Let it be known, minus a few coins ,I paid absolutely nothing for a bunch these. Lucky connection I guess maybe not. What I'd like is for people to chime in & say yay or nay, fake, garbage, nice , hold on to that ,etc. My main focus has been in the cent error & vareity forum & post there as such. Here, I'd like opinions on things I, we dont know about. I'd maybe consider this entry to above entry level. All criticisms are appreciated to help myself & others build something better. Enjoy ! Mods feel free to move to the appropriate area..... Page 1 of the 7070 : Edited by wrongnumber 03/04/2019 11:50 pm

If your budget allows, consider upgrading away from holed or otherwise grossly damaged examples. I think that this is especially relevant for folks working on type sets, but am interested to read what others think.

I don't think you need us to tell you if a coin is damaged or we don't like the look of it. What's your bottom-line goal here? To put a 7070 set together? Just wondering, do you have an album? They are all good coins if you're just looking for hole fillers. You can always up-grade as you go. BTW: You're missing a few coins for that first page.

Way too many pics to deal with. A quick glance shows several cleaned, damaged and unattractive coins. Show one coin at a time for helpful information.

Well maybe I'm wrong & a type set isn't an entry level sort of thing. I'm mostly an error collector of Lincoln cents & post accordingly. This is my page 1 of the 7070. Idc if they are cleaned damaged or unattractive. Obviously upgrading in the future & only spent money towards the album so far here. Some pics either didn't load or I missed them. This is my experience & that novices can avoid what I have or have gotten. Idk heck all about early coins. Nobody needs a fat wallet to be happy.

For a type set on the cheap I think it's great. I actually don't mind seeing holed coins for something like this. That 3 cent nickel makes me go ugh though.

The 1812 Large Cent is actually not all that bad. Those Classic Head large cents don't grow on trees. Certainly room for upgrading but take your time with good selections as you improve the set.

Obviously using your brains to acquire coins on a reasonable budget. I like that idea. Explains why there is such a variation in grade. That is OK, upgrade when the opportunity presents itself, maybe decades later. Patience is the thing. Always get the best coin for money that you can, within the budget you have set for yourself. When you have a family, a reasonable budget available for coins must a second priority. the family always comes first. That is how I have collected coins for the last 40 years. America is fortunate in having a rich cultural coin heritage. There is never any doubt, that by design alone, than an American coins is very obviously an American coin. I like that Idea too. By type is the way I collect American coins as well. What I see here is a lifetime interest. From an Australian friend:- Good on yer, mate ! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Coincidentally, at this point in time, I am now going to send a hand written letter to my In-Law family in S.D. They have seen my rather extensive collection of American coins when they visited Sydney recently.

wrongnumber, excellent purchase on your coins my friend. In the long run of it all, we're all collectors and it should never matter anyone's opinion of your collection. Because, it's yours and no one else's.

I suggest saving up for better quality coins. It will take longer to fill the places in your album but you'll feel better about it in the long run.

I think on of the main points of having a 7070 is to have an example of each type of coin (mostly) to be able to look at and own for as long as you want. That's what is going on here, for what seems like a low price. While it may not hold tons of value, and may be a hard sell if looking to liquidate in the future, but what is being started here is an example of many different US coins throughout the years to enjoy and share with others, without having to spend much at all. On the flip side, unless you are going for damaged/low grade. I think you could personally find non damaged, low to mid grade examples of some of these coins for pretty low money too.
