Congratulations on your effort and progress. The 1883 V nickel you posted could be replaced by a vastly improved one for just a few dollars. You may already know this story but yours is the No Cents variety and caused confusion because it doesn't have "CENTS" on the reverse. The general population hoarded these and bad guys gold plated them and passed them off as $5 coins. Mid year the mint released a new variety with the Cents on the reverse. Because so many were hoarded for so long I bought a high grade 'No Cents' for about 4 dollars.

Thanks for moving post to a better suited area. I like I said earlier, I didn't pay for any of these really except the silver. In the long long run I would like to complete the set with obviously much better examples. I was fortunate enough to be giving a lot of these & hey really not complaining about the scars & holes for now. Just that there's something in the hole! I'm a complete novice when it comes the these classic coins & not that great at spotting stuff that has been cleaned unless it's quite obvious. I lurk in this forum a lot. I love them but my wallet doesn't lol. So for now I'm happy with what I have. I like showing non coin collectors these things & their mind is blown seeing almost 200 year old coins. I may have a better "no cents" nickel in that dedicated album but it's going to stay there. Only missing the 3 keys. I appreciate all your input ;)

A friend of mine initially filled his type set with coins that weren't a whole lot higher grade than yours. At the time he was buying any coin lot he could find that had silver in it that was priced less than the melt value of the silver. The only coins he didn't get that way were a couple of the early coppers & the Seated dollars (no gold page). He said " I had the album, was getting the silver coins for less than spot & everything else for free....why wouldn't I fill the album?" He's now started upgrading but didn't lose anything by starting out the way he did.

That's pretty much the boat that I'm in. Once I get more familiar with these series of coins I'll go about getting them when something nice comes up that I can also afford. A lot of the modern stuff I already had & the rest given to me in a box of 2x2s. So like stated above "why not put them in the album." I'm still somewhat young & have a lot to learn & plenty of time to build up a sweet set ;)

Hey I'm happy with it for now. I filled it that much in one day, even though some are busted looking lol. Good eye, I'll have to check it later when off work. I never actually looked at it under the loupe. Will post confirming if it is.

Looking forward to it! I like looking for varieties. It makes fun out of common coins.

Oh I know, a majority of my time here is posting in the error forum with Lincoln cents.

It's a good start and like you said, the price was right. Now just a matter of deciding what to do with it going forward. Upgrade? Or leave as is? It's your call, it's a nice collection of old coins just like it is.

You are motivating me to try and start one, but I want to be budget mindful. I look at partially completed sets on ebay, but seems so easy to get burned, and not get the best value for the money.
