This just arrived. I've upgraded it to my 80% complete 1905 proof set. Eye on the prize in the next 2-3 years for the half dollar. This is wonderful in hand..a white blast in the light. There are, however, two lint marks made at the mint which didn't affect the grading. ..one just above the 0 in "1905" and the other just to the right of the hair on the obverse. Let me know what you think whether good or bad. I was looking for a 67+ for the last 18 months to hit the market. D.L. must've upgraded.

A monster of a coin . Can you explain how the lint marks were made at the mint ?

Sometimes the proof dies or the proof planchets were polished with a soft cloth and as such sometimes pieces of the cloth would get attached to the dies or planchet....and they remained during the strike...and there you'd get the lint marks. Some may see it as a defect and others caused by the mint thus not considered a defect by some. The graders of this didn't consider it a defect.....There's not many of these and this one came on the market and I snatched it up as soon as I saw it. The lint marks aside. It's quite a coin in hand.

@DB, as you may know we sometimes call that a "stuck-through error" here. With or without them, this coin is a beaut! Well done.

This coin isn't perfect, and the grading attests to this.
I can see a few tiny nit-picking imperfections.

At least, it educates us as to what an MS-67 coin should look like.

Congrats man! I tried chasing one down for you a bit back because I knew a dealer had one, but he didn't want to sell, no matter how much I bugged him lol. Anyway, glad to see you caught your white whale. It's a beautiful example.

Thanks for commenting. I enjoy it immensely. I thought to myself if I wait for one without lint marks to come around how long would it be and would I miss it like I missed the last one some 18 months ago.I said to myself if this 67+ was good enough for D.L.... then let's see if I can shave a little off the price then..@ Spence, yes struck-thru errors. I forgot what they call it if the lint mark causes it to rise up though.

Glad you like it @ acloco. ....and Jon, I'd have to look at that on the Hansen coins. I'd ave to assume if he had more money than one can know what to do with that he may just buy whatever he likes whenever he likes grade aside...so it would seem reasonable that a great deal of his coins won't be Cac'd...until he decided to go for the best...and maybe not even then. I'll have a look at the DL collection on DLRC for sale just to look how many of his lower end coins aren't Cac'd.

Doc, I've mentioned this on occasion before. You have impeccable taste and a very keen eye for some of the best examples out there. This one is exquisite with just enough tone as to not hinder the device features. I hope that the half comes up soon for you.
