Greetings, I'm new to the forum. This is my first post actually. I stumbled upon here while researching my metal detecting find (again). I was out in November detecting a late 1700's inn and pulled an 1802 Draped bust dime from the ground. I didn't even know what I was looking at when I found it! I was hoping for a seated coin at best. The pics are from it fresh out of the dirt laying in my gloved hand. I sent it to NGC to be graded, but I'm too impatient to wait and see what it might come back as and what it could be worth! Thanks for taking the time to look!

I'm a bit lower at VF25/30 details as well for the old ground corrosion. What a find from the ground though, amazing.

P.S. Just saw this was your 1st post. Super high end way to say hello too, impressive.

Incredible find, easy VF detail with corrosion. Did you order the conservation service at NGC? Hopefully they can significantly improve the eye appeal and stabilize the surfaces so corrosion doesn't progress.

A problem-free example at this level of detail would likely fetch $4000 or more at auction. It's truly a terrific find. Congratulations!

Pretty amazing find, congrats! I'm also at VF-Details.

Out of curiosity, what all did you do to remove the dirt before sending it in to NGC?

I believe I did select the conservation service from NGC. I'll have to check the order to make sure, I hope I did... As far as getting the dirt off, all I did was run it briefly under water and let it air dry. The only rubbing I did to it was right after I pulled it out of the ground, before I knew what I had. At first glance, I just saw the backside of it laying flat and I thought it was a shotgun shell...

Make sure you post this coin when it comes back from NGC. It will be interesting to see if it comes back as genuine. Best of luck!

An incredible detecting find! I'd say VF details, but even the corrosion is pretty minimal for a dug coin. Maybe it was fortunate to be in a relatively dry location for a couple hundred years.

VF Details. This is an incredible find. PCGS lists a population of 165 known in all grades. The find of a lifetime! Congratulations!
