My friend Bill and I drove from the Milwaukee area to Chicago yesterday for the last day of the ANA Convention and show. A lot of the dealers had already cleared out but there was still plenty to look at. The highlight was seeing the Tyrant Collection of U.S. type coins, which included the King of Siam Proof Set with the MS-67 1804 Draped Bust Dollar. My personal favorite was the 1803/2 Draped Bust Cent graded MS-66 RED!!! I could not believe a 218 year old copper coin could look like that. I retired today, after 39 years as a parish pastor, and I went to the show looking for a present for myself to mark the occasion. The #1 item on my "wish list" was a high grade Liberty Seated half dollar. I was not disappointed. I found a gorgeous 1877-S graded MS-64 by PCGS. It has some light gold toning and intense luster. I hemmed and hawed about buying such an expensive coin, but ended up going for it. I was not disappointed. Paul Bulgerin

Very nice acquisition, and congrats on your retirement! I retired almost 5 years ago, and my retirement present to myself was also a coin I'd always put off buying because of the expense. If retirement after a long career isn't a reason to splurge a bit, then what is?

Paul - Congratulations on your retirement and on your present. It's absolutely gorgeous!!!! From the photos, the luster looks blinding! You may need to put on sunglasses or some solar eclipse eye protectors each time you take out that coin to protect yourself from getting blinded!!!
You should be VERY proud! ENJOY!!!!

Thank you for all the kind words on my retirement. After all these years with other pursuits, I am now looking forward to being able to devote a lot more time to our wonderful hobby.
There are a lot of coins in my collection which need to be photographed and fully described. That should keep me busy for a while.
It was so nice to be able to go to a coin show after the last 18 months of COVID.
