Would conservation from PCGS or NGC fix the nasty black stuff around edges as well as the slight toning? *** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. Titles are Important! ***

Personally, I'd leave well enough alone. This is a nice-looking coin. to the CCF!

I wouldn't spend money for conservation on that coin . If you really don't like the thin black line around the edges I would get the smallest tinniest softest artist brush lightly dip it in E-Zest silver dip. don't saturate the brush but lightly pass around the edge of the coin until the black is removed . As far as the toning , leave it .It's not that bad and adds character to the coin . There will be members disagreeing with this method but in my opinion this is what I would do .

Replace it with an equivalent coin, but without the problems.

Yes, conservation by NGC or PCGS would remove the toning and black around the edges. If you do not like the coin, sell it and buy one you do like as you will be money ahead.

Try a dip in acetone before E-Z-Est. Acetone cannot react with the metal of the coin - only foreign substances.
I know the TPGs will grade a coin dipped in E-Z-Est, but that chemical does make a slightly false colored luster on the coin.
You can prove this by taking two mint-luster 1964 dimes. Dip one and not the other. Put them side by side. You will see the dipped one will have a whiter look to its luster than the natural silver's luster from being struck at the mint. They both still look good, but you can tell when side by side.
Been there. Done that.

To save the most money, either keep what you have, or sell this coin and buy another that you like. Spending money on conservation and grading doesn't seem worth the trouble in my eyes.

If the reverse looks as good...at least a 64...and with the desire (fad) for toned coins...would probably bring a slight premium? Since she is encapsulated I'd leave it....shouldn't progress too quickly. I've used E-Z-Est...works good...but sure does show the ticks on a dipped coin. smat

The reason I ask is this is a 27-d I've been looking for a long time to find one and don't own this coin but could soon. I have a complete set of ms63 NGC Peace dollars less the 27d all blast white and hand picked as to have minimal contact marks etc. I could find a PCGS white coin but not sure I want the risk of it not making the crossover.
