Have been out in the trenches again buying Barbers any low grade original Barber dime quarter of half I can get my mits on. I paid big money on this little rascal with 2 black pimples and major pocket rubb to the tune of 125 bucks! ANACS settled the matter then changed their mind...seriously they changed their opionion. What do you think they permanently gave it?

NumisMedia comes in at $89 for a G4 — and this one is probably at AG3. Plus, the pimples might prevent a straight grade.

I don't like the looks of that 9 in the date, could be just damage though, as nothing else seems suspect, so likely real, just really worn. I'd give this an AG3 and maybe details. Rim bump (reverse @ 2:00) damage to date, and the spots likely from attempted corrosion removal.

luvmyCAM, have I got a Barber half for you! I can work it over with a grinder if that would make you happier.

Grade looks closer to FR2 than AG3. The spots look recessed so maybe old damage, possibly corrosion pits. Add in the obverse hairlines and it might well fail to grade problem-free. Looks like there may be an S mintmark. The San Francisco issue is the least-valuable of the three mint possibilities for 1895. Not a coin that I would buy but it should still have some value over silver content.

I'm guessing the controversy was over whether it's 1895-O or not. That's the only way it would justify the $125 in that condition. I also think it's FR2. The top of the presumed mint mark is in the correct position to be O, but the visible curvature in my opinion makes it too small to be O, and there's a hint of notch where the top right of S would be. I'll guess that ANACS originally said 1895-O and changed their mind to S. I base that mostly on the fact that you sound disappointed. This implies that they posted it as 1895-O and then changed it to S before shipping it, because you certainly wouldn't have resubmitted it if it got returned to you as O.

I see a FR02 coin likely cleaned.

Yeah so to me it looks more like and S than an O. Would need a specific close up on the spot.

final grade FR2 not sure they would straight grade it
the MM looks more like an O than an S. the S has more separation from the bow than this so I'm leaning O

Appears to be a 1895-O that is FR-AG.

Dealer called this one at FR-2 straight grade with full return (minus grade fee) if it comes back a Philly or "details" with little risk other than fees I agreed. ANACS listed it as 1895 O upon receipt 15 days later email notifies me grade 1895 FR-2 straight, 30 hours later another email with change to 1895 O FR-2 along with tracking # Kudos to ANACS I instructed them to grade this coin as "grader determined" either Philly or O coin. Coin turned upside down shows 4/5 of a fat worn O mintmark. Those pimples do not eat into the coin dont know what it is but their tiny ringed stains. Good news is an authentic 1895 O dime bad news is boy is it a wimpy 1895 O. 58 other low grade Dimes in set I bought will share on forum soon - set was assembled early 1990's and shows interesting window what was out there for hole filling. Some of you nailed it thanks for input.
