This was an assisted pick by an eagle-eyed friend. And while I don't know a ton about Mercury dimes, just looking at the PCGS Coinfacts site I only see 18 of these graded in MS condition so suspect they are pretty rare. The other point of interest is that all the images I can find show coins with heavy abrasions removing a die clash, which VV lists as stage-B. This coin is the stage-A, still showing the heavy die clash that was removed. I suspect it is even much more rare. This one goes to PCGS. 1941-S/S Mercury dime - RPM-005, FS-502 - Stage A with die clash

Excellent score, tropicalbats! That is a very fine coin.

Very nice rotation on that RPM.

Thanks folks! After some research it turns out this die stage with the clash is quite rare. The Wexler site listed a stage A before the clash and a stage B after it had been abraded off. So there was a narrow time frame when coins with this clash were being produced. Looks like this one will rearrange the stages for the Wexler listings and go in as the new stage B.

Very cool coin. I wonder why Wexler didn't leave a gap for stage B. You'd think there have to be coins produced between pre-clash and post-polishing.

Really nice unabraded clash on a nice FS variety. Congrats on the find and the friend.
