I bought this 1877 Indian Head cent from an estate auction online a few weeks back. After doing some research, I'm thinking this coin might be a fake. What do you guys think?

Absolute fake. Among the tells are poorly-cut letterting and the lack of a "shallow N" reverse.

Agree, not legit. Does appear to be plated.

Definitely counterfeit. Here's an NGC article on fake 1877 IHCs, and yours is almost exactly like the example in the article.

Thanks for all your comments. I suspected as much. I bought it from an estate auction online, I won't mention the platform, but it was an absolute auction with no reserve and no returns. I lowballed it just to get the bidding started and won. For $50? I thought something was up. I can see the tells very well in the side by side comparison.

At the very least, you have a coin with a story behind it.

Sadly, you spent $50 on a "coin" you can get from the Chinese site for $1.05 plus shipping.

What about a silver-looking version of a normally red/brown coin made you pull the trigger?

This is without a doubt, the worst indian head fake I've ever seen.

What's up with the silver color? That should be a solid clue on authenticity.
