With the recent passing of former President of the United States Jimmy Carter, I wonder if the U.S. Mint has any plans to issue a Presidential dollar and Coin and Chronicles set for him similarly to what they did for George H. W. Bush. If they do the C&C set, it would be fun if they also issued a 2025 Susan B. Anthony coin for it. Although it being a failure, maybe not so fitting.

I am pretty sure it would take an act of Congress just like the George H W Bush coin.

From what I understand, there is a two year waiting period after a president dies before a Presidential coin can be issued. Not sure what the mechanics are to accomplish.

The 2-year waiting period is correct. President Bush passed away in 2018 and his dollar is dated 2020. The earliest a Carter dollar would be released is the end of 2026.

So more likely 2027 anyway, since so much (in theory) will be going on with the semiquincentennial. Quote: Presidential dollar I can virtually guarantee. Coin and Chronicles less likely. Yeah, I can see that, but the man had such a long career of humanitarianism-related activity after his presidency, so a C&C would be a good read IMO. Plus...they're really cool sets!

Help me understand the 2 years thing JFK was killed in November of 63 but is on the obverse of the 64 half. Is this somehow different than what we are talking about.

The two-year waiting period is explicit in the legislation for the Presidential dollars, and it's two years "following the date of the death of that President", so unless they try to sell these in the last 3 days of 2026, a 2027 release is more likely. -- https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg...9publ145.htmAs far as I can tell, Kennedy and Roosevelt designs were not subject to this kind of waiting period.

From the link provided by Alpha2814:
"Termination of program.--The issuance of coins under this subsection shall terminate when each President has been so honored, subject to paragraph (2)(E), and may not be resumed except by an Act of Congress."
Congress had to act for the George H.W. Bush coin. Similarly, Congress would have to act for a James E. "Jimmy" Carter coin. If Congress did act they could also very easily act at the same time to modify the two year limitation.

The Coin and Chronicle sets are very nice. I am looking forward to honoring our 39th President.

There will most certainly be a dollar coin.
There will also be a two year wait. Precedents are difficult to change and there is no real hurry.
I am also certain there will be a Coin and Chronicles set issued as well. I have all the others, so I look forward to purchasing it in 2027 (because 2026 already has a lot going on).

I don't want to sound morbid but I have a feeling that we might bury 3 presidents this year
Biden is in bad shape and Clinton, despite being younger, looks worse.
