The 1885 CC MSD always had appeal to me due to its low mintage. And who knows how many MS65 graded ones will be out there in the future. Certainly not for the price I paid. This is my 5'th Morgan minted in Carson City, the 1885 CC had a mintage of only 228,000 making it the lowest mintage "CC" ever "I believe", and one of the lowest MSDs overall. A deal I just couldn't pass up.

Yes, those days still come to mind. This is my 2nd "CC" MS65 hoard coin, the other being an 1883. But hoard or not this one came from a very low mintage year and even tho there are MSD's of more value "much more value" due to their very scarce availability this was my one shot to own a truly Historic MSD from a low mintage year despite being from a hoard.
Its already worth a few hundred more then I paid for it and then should only grow thru the years as people hang on to their coins or do something stupid like melt them.
I'll never be able to spend $200,000 to $300,000 on a very rare MSD, mintage/Grade/VAM, so this hoard is a fine vehicle for a working guy on a pension to own a real beauty of a coin. I couldn't be happier, far more so then just buying gold bullion.
Its in collecting where my heart Lies. I may not make much money on it but its in numismatics where my love lays.

Your last couple of sentences really sum it up. That what it's all about.

I have an AG3 1885-CC. It's a reminder that before GSA this was the rarest of the CC Morgans.

Wowza, that's a beauty! Congrats on the purchase! It's a historic coin and the GSA Hoard always adds an appeal. I don't collect Morgans but I appreciate their beauty. My goal is to one day add a circulated CC Morgan to my collection.
