For the most part they are not. There are a couple that are higher price, the 1921, 1928 and in higher grades, the 1934S, but a good portion can be had for rather low cost.

Common date silver generally doesn't carry much of a premium until it gets into the AU-MS category. Most dealers have a good supply of common date silver & generally only buy more as "junk" silver with prices based on melt. Market conditions in your local will determine if you can get actual melt value. It's been my experience that the fewer dealers there are the less they pay.

I agree. I suggest as long as you don't get too low of an offer, sell the coins you have now and use that money to buy Peace dollars, the series you mentioned starting. The 27-S is worth in the $30-$40 range.

Heh, well I tried to make it to that dealer today.. he failed to mention that he's on one of the busiest streets in the city though, with no parking within at least a mile... so I wasn't up for paying 25 dollars to park a mile away and then walking a mile with my little coin collection in a shoe box.. guess I should have done my homework on the location..

Don't walk into a dealer unless you know exactly what you're selling. You'd be better off opening up an ebay account, taking good pictures, starting your auctions at $.99 and letting them fly. Your pictures are good enough to sell your coins on ebay and it would be the quickest way to get rid of your coins without getting screwed.

Based on ebay Completed Listings - these are rough but might be useful as ballpark numbers: -Full set of franklins $225-260-Nearly full set of walkers, with the two high grade key dates being (guessing with my own grading skills of course.. lol) VF20 on the 1921-D and 1938-D. $900-1000 for a complete set; subtract maybe $100-150 for the missing coins. Depending on the grades of the keys, adjust up or down a little.-Nearly full set of Mercury dimes (missing 2 dates, a 1916-D and 1921-D) all of the other key dates that might be included probably aren't in any better shape than G$ $150-175-Various SLQ's, not close to a full set, 14 quarters total, only key date being the 1927-S in VG8 or so shape $100 or so-8 different barber silver quarters (mixed in with the LSQ for some reason) none of which appear to be in great shape, and since they don't have their own book I don't think they are any key dates.. $3-5 each-45 misc. Buffalo nickels.. of which I know absolutely nothing about.. lol.. Unless you have a key date, $1 each or less-40 misc. indian head nickels.. again of which I know nothing about Thinking you mean Indian Head cents - again, unless you have a key date, $1 each or less -2 Flying Eagle cents? See above.. haha $10-20 unless higher grade

Thanks for the help kenkat... I saw the dealer today.. I think sensing my lack of confidence in knowledge of coins, grading, and prices, he though he could take me to the cleaners... offered me 200 for the 1921-D and said he was being "generous"... he then mulled over the rest of the coins for about 2 minutes (not even taking anything but the walker 1921-D, 1938-D, and the Mercury dime 1921 out to look at closer) and said "I'll give you 675 for the whole lot". seemed low, especially since I included a few coin folders in the lot that I brought to him that I didn't tell you guys about.. nearly full Washington quarter set from 1932-1945 (everything but a 1932-D) A few MS Morgan dollars, a few MS Franklins, a complete set of LWC (lincoln wheat cents, right?) etc... Maybe I should try to sell on here, or ebay? I don't love to sell things on ebay because I don't love to use paypal.. also I have very little feedback on ebay so that could hurt my sales. I just wish I could find a serious buyer locally.. it's proven difficult.

if you sell the Franks separate, I might bite!
BUT, wait until you have 50 posts

I've read the rules, 14 days too, i'll probably hit the 50 posts before I hit the 2 weeks of membership ;).
I'm a member of a lot of other online forums, and there's nothing I hate more than a rule breaker.. I hate the ignorance behind it too.. like "oh sorry, I didn't read the rules".. =)

That is a crazy offer .. in my opinion. I have to ask .. about what grade is the 1932 S Washington quarter .. also the 1936 D and 1940 D have good value if they are in higher grade Did you say a complete set of LWC .. from what years? Also .. what was the face value of all the silver you took in .. for example .. 100 silver half dollars is $50 .....

the 1923-S Washington appears to be a G6 maybe a VG8 (again, based on my inexperienced eyes and online grading tools) the 36-D and 40-D Washington follow suit, somewhere around VG8..

A 1932 S quarter in good grade .. with no problems, I think sell price ( like to a dealer ) maybe $35 - $45 ... to buy from a dealer .. at a good buy .. maybe $70 .. depending on how it looks .. You said .. you took in Walking Liberty .. Franklin, Washington quarter .. Mercury dime sets and some other Morgans and Franklin's .. what was the face value of all those coins .. that helps set a bottom price .. where you take that number and then start adding the better coins.

I'll have to look at the face value of all of them.. I don't assume it would be all that much though? I've also got a full set of ike's mostly in MS60+ condition, Susan B anthony's in the same or better conditions, and Kennedy's all in very high grades.. there's no doubt in my mind that the Kennedy halves were her favorite to collect, she's got an unbelievable amount of them in this collection! on more modern coins like the kennedy's, ikes, and susan b's, should I be looking for mintage errors? If they don't have any special errors, these coins aren't typically worth much, right?

It does not take much silver to get up to the $600+ you were offered. Silver is being bought by dealers around 10 to 12 times face. So $50 face would bring $500 to $600 in just silver. See where I am going .. the 1921 and 1921 D walking liberty, 1921 mercury, 1932 S Washington quarter and a few other semi keys .. wasn't there a 1927 S quarter. Plus you did not say what wheat cents you have .. I would have to see just the coins I listed above .. but I would think they would bring a easy $400 just for those 5 coins.
